DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Firefighters Wednesday battled a house fire near Descanso that spread to nearby brush. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started on the 24000 block of Sherilton Valley Road in the area of Cedar Creek. Part of the home became involved in the fire before flames spread to nearby brush, scorching two acres. DETROIT (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 375,000 Explorer SUVs in the U.S. and Canada to fix a suspension problem that has caused 13 crashes. The recall covers SUVs from the 2013 through 2017 model years built at Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant from Sept. 4, 2012, to Jan. 25, 2017. They were sold or registered in 22 states and six Canadian provinces where salt is used to clear roads during the winter. The automaker says the rear toe links can fracture, reducing steering control. A toe link puts weight on the tires so they stay on the ground. Ford says six people were hurt in the crashes. Dealers will inspect the suspension and replace parts if necessary. Customers will be notified starting the week of Nov. 30. 727

DEL MAR (KGTV) - The Annual Pacific Classic Party celebrated heroes in the horse community who risked their lives to rescue thoroughbreds during the Lilac Fire."I want everybody who was at San Luis Ray that day to understand they were all heroes," Horse Trainer and Owner Kimberly Marrs said. She's owned horses as long as she can remember, and loves them with all her heart.Friday night, a jazz-infused, Hor d'oeuvres laden party at L'Auberge, the honorees transported attendees to smoke and flame-filled, frantic memories."His pen was on fire because he was in sawdust, literally drug him out of the pen," Marrs said, adding that on that day she lept inside and dragged the horse out, leading him and others along the way to the infield with another worker. They were almost to the end of the tunnel when, "next thing we're facing is a 50-head herd of horses, coming straight at us. So all we could do is basically plaster ourselves against the wall and close our eyes and pray we didn't get hit because if we got hit, we would've been knocked down and trampled to death."She made it unscathed and headed back for her barn where she knew another horse was waiting. When she returned, she faced devastation."I'm still looking for a hose to try and put him out, like I can save him. I tried to get in my barn, but it was so hot, I was stepping over flames," she said. Marrs knew he was already dead. She described it as a horrible, guilt-filled moment. DENVER (AP) — Chipotle is moving its headquarters from its hometown of Denver to southern California.The burrito chain announced Wednesday that work done in its Denver and New York offices will be either moved to its new headquarters in Newport Beach, California or taken over by its existing office in Columbus, Ohio over the next six months. The Denver and New York offices will then be closed.In a statement, CEO Brian Niccol says the consolidation and the move will help drive sustainable growth and position the company to compete for top talent.Company founder and former CEO Steve Ells opened the first Chipotle in Denver in 1993. DENVER -- Starting with the next academic year, students in a Colorado school districtwill attend classes for four days each week instead of five.For the past few months, the 27J school district — which covers portions of the Denver suburbs, including Brighton, Commerce City, Henderson and Thornton in addition to unincorporated areas of Adams, Broomfield and Weld counties — has been exploring and discussing the idea of a shorter week and on Monday, the district made it official.Students will attend classes Tuesday through Friday. Rather than extending the school year to meet state requirements for instruction time, students will be in class longer each day.For elementary schools and full-day kindergarten, school will begin at 7:50 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Middle and high schools will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:32 p.m.To address concerns from parents about child care on Mondays, the district will offer child care from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a fee of per child per day.District officials said the change is due in part to the district's difficulty competing with other districts in terms of recruiting and retaining teachers, who often leave for other districts that pay better. Officials hope a shorter work week will encourage more teachers to stay put."I realize this will be a significant change for our students, their families, and the communities we are so fortunate to serve, but our district can no longer be expected to do more with less financial resources," said 27J Superintendent Dr. Chris Fiedler. "We are 100% committed to providing our students with the necessary skills and competencies that will enable a future far beyond graduation.
