CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police on Wednesday identified the man stabbed to death in what officers described as a road rage incident.Horace Williams, 36, was involved in the fight with 60-year-old Rickey Smith on Sweetwater Road Tuesday, police said.Witnesses told police Smith was following Williams’ van as the two yelled at each other. Smith’s pickup struck the van from behind, then Smith pulled in front of the van and stopped abruptly, witnesses said. The maneuver caused a crash, after which Smith left his truck and stabbed Williams, according to police.RELATED: Man stabbed to death in possible road rage incident in South BayWilliams, a resident of National City, died at the hospital.Smith is a FedEx employee but does not work as a driver. Witnesses said he was wearing his uniform at the time of the incident.“This report is deeply disturbing. We extend our sympathies to those affected by this tragedy,” a FedEx spokesperson said in a statement.Police said Smith does not have a criminal record. He is the organist at St. Steven’s Church of God, where his wife is the director of the youth choir. Parishioners told 10News the Smiths are a “very nice couple”. China’s government says all 9 million people in the eastern city of Qingdao will be tested for the coronavirus this week after nine cases linked to a hospital were found. The announcement broke a string of weeks without any locally transmitted infections reported in China, though the country has a practice of not reporting asymptomatic cases. The National Health Commission said authorities were investigating the source of the infections found in eight patients at Qingdao’s Municipal Chest Hospital and one family member. The commission said the whole city will be tested within five days.China only has reported a handful of cases since the spring. 662

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A suspected drunk driver had to be pulled from a vehicle after a rollover crash in the South Bay overnight.Police said the driver drove into two parked cars while driving southbound on Broadway at about 2 a.m. Saturday. After hitting one vehicle, her vehicle rolled into the middle of the street.The vehicle she struck collided with a nearby SUV, police said.Emergency crews extricated the woman from her vehicle and took her to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.Chula Vista Police later arrested the woman for driving under the influence.No one else was injured in the crash. 620

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Laurence and Cherryl Lector's two small children were eager to show off their costumes and hit up their neighborhood for sweets. But the couple didn't want to abandon their home on Baywood Circle in Chula Vista and disappoint the several trick-or-treaters likely to stop by for confectionery.So, the couple filled a large candy bowl hoping their security camera -- fixed visibly in their porch -- would keep visitors honest.  The family then set off on their haunts.The Lectors phones were buzzing with video alerts showing little ghosts and ghouls digging through the self-serve candy bowl and respecting the Halloween honor system.Then they received a video showing an esurient group of older kids, and one small girl, emptying out the dish into their bags."I was devastated someone could just get all the candy and ruin the night [for other trick-or-treaters]," said Laurence Lector.One of the kids noticed the camera and even pointed it out to someone else in the group, but the kids continued to snatch all of the treats until every sweet was gone."We were disappointed that those that came afterward came to an empty bowl," Cherryl Castro-Lector told said.About an hour later, they received a video from their camera that warmed their hearts.The video shows a girl and boy investigating the empty bowl.  They must've known that the night wasn't over for other little trick-or-treaters. So, the group took turns emptying their own their treats into the bowl, starting with their mom."I got a little teary eyed.  Gosh, I hope my kids are like that someday," Castro-Lector said. "I would have hugged those little kids and mom if I were there."The Lectors are eager to find these children and their parents to say thanks.  "I would love to meet them and thank them for being so kind. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several Chula Vista elementary schools are working to give students hands-on engineering experience the district says they can take into the job market. On August 1, 2016, a new type of learning burst into being with the start of the Innovation and Energy Station in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The station helps teach students STEM. The station serves sixth grade students as well as serving as a community lab. In 2018, the lab grew again to include the Energy Station at Saburo Muraoka Elementary School. In August of this year, the program grew yet again to include the Hydro Station, which teaches students about the water industry. The lab begins by helping students identify which careers align with their interests while highlighting jobs in San Diego’s priority sectors. “It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about their own strengths," Michael Bruder, District engineering teacher told 10News. “The students’ eyes light up when they see the lab space. You get the ‘Wow’ effect. You literally hear the students say ‘Wow!’ as they enter,” Bruder continued. At the Energy Station, students use Minecraft to create an energy efficient home and/or landscape. Students exploring other themes could be testing wind turbines or building circuits. The program also offers students a connection with local employers, giving them the chance to connect their hands-on experience and the region’s in-demand skills. Qualcomm, Microsoft, SDG&E, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association all partner with the program. “I want employers to realize that career education must start before high school,” says Matthew Tessier, assistant superintendent of innovation and instruction at CVESD. “We’d love to partner with more people and expand to every single priority sector.”Click here to learn more about the program. 1950
