SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Costco is reaching out to active-duty troops and veterans with a special military shopping event.The warehouse chain will have a Military Hour on Saturday, March 24 at all 117 Costco stores nationwide.Military community members will have a chance to shop hours before the stores open to all members.The first 100 attendees will receive a free swag bag, according to the Costco website.Costco is asking anyone interested in the Military Hour to RSVP here. 486

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Behind the research board project that placed top 300 in the national broadcom master's STEM competition, is Scripps Ranch High's freshman, Agastya Sridharan. "It started when I was reading a Wall Street report saying google search results were bias and it was shocking to me."Agastya created a Google platform mock-up that surveyed people's perceptions on political candidates, based on search engine results. "I had a few political search results which were arranged in 5 different orders, one favoring a liberal, one favoring a conservative. Once I got the results back, I was shocked how much it changed people's perspectives by 30%."And it wasn't just his creativeness that got the judge's attention. He was also asked to answer two questions, one to offer a solution to the global wildfire issue. "You'd have a fleet of drones that'd detect fires with image processions and AI, that was my idea for solving the wildfires." His sharp responses then placed him in the top 30. "I just freaked out, it was incredible."Next month, Agastya will be competing in the final round as the contest goes virtual for the first time amid COVID-19. He said the most exciting takeaway so far, has been seeing others his age come up with real solutions that could change the world. Everyone is lying," Woolery said in that tweet."The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it's all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I'm sick of it," his tweet said.The 79-year-old deactivated his Twitter account Wednesday after publishing a tweet saying, "Covid-19 is real and it is here.""My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones," Woolery said in a tweet on Monday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As the nation continues to process what happened during the first presidential debate, many are expressing frustration about what didn’t happen.Local and national Latino American leaders are calling out the moderator and the candidates for making no mention of the millions of Latinos in the country.Just moments after the debate ended Tuesday night, organizations like the National Association of Hispanic Journalists shared a series of tweets highlighting that Latinos were not mentioned during the debate.According to the Pew Research Center, more than 32 million Latino voters are eligible to vote in November.Voters like Denisse Roldan Newell wanted to hear more from both candidates about their policies on a range of issues.“It's not just immigration, it's not just the border wall, it's having to do with economics, with smalls business development, with affordable health care, with education,” said Roldan Newell.Roberto Alcantar with the Chicano Federation told ABC 10News it was concerning that the candidates made no mention about COVID-19 and it’s disproportionate affect on the Latino community.In San Diego, Latinos make up 34% of the population but 65% of COVID-19 cases."These are not just Latino issues, these are issues for all of us as American. While, yes, we are Latinos, we are American and our issues are America’s issues," said Alcantar. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crowds gathering at Veterans Park in Ocean Beach may face fines if they don't follow the county's public health orders.Tuesday morning, city crews put up orange mesh fencing around the park, but a few hours later, witnesses took pictures of two men cutting the fence down.Residents and business owners have been complaining for weeks about large groups gathering on Wednesday evenings gathered to watch the drum circle and hang out in the park.Mark Winkie is the president of the Ocean Beach Town Council. He didn't agree with shutting down the park, but he didn't condone tearing down the fence, either."Disappointing what happened here this morning, but it's important for people to know, as a town council, we really would like education to come first, to notify people about what they need to do when gathering here on such large quantities on a Wednesday," said Winkie.The public health orders banning gatherings of more than ten have been in place for months, but Winkie said it's possible not everyone is aware."Particularly for the drum circle, no city or county official has been out really interfacing with them, SDPD definitely came out, and I applaud their actions," said Winkie.Last week, police broke up the crowd, but did not issue citations.Councilmember Dr. Jennifer Campbell said it's time for enforcement."Everyday more San Diegans are dying, so we have to get tough and I'm telling you if this situation that happened last Wednesday night, happens this Wednesday night, there's gonna be a lot of clamp down, so they have got to stop it," Dr. Campbell said shouting.Violators could be fined up to ,000."By God, that is now the law and, therefore, the county sheriff should be out here arresting people who aren't wearing masks, who aren't distancing, and who are coming together," said Dr. Campbell.It's unclear if the city will put up a more permanent barrier or if anything will be in place by Wednesday evening. 1962
