ANTIOCH, Tennessee (WSMV) -- Exactly one week after a gunman opened fire on a Waffle House in Antioch killing four people and injuring others, community members gathered at the site to remember the victims.At exactly 3:20 this morning, people held a moment of silence, prayers and sang a song at Waffle House in honor of the victim's of last week's shooting.The group Partners in the Struggle organized the event at Waffle House this Sunday morning so that the community could gather in prayer as well as offer comfort and support to those affected by last week's shooting."What I would tell the families is [to] stay strong," said Earl Jordan of Partners in the Struggle. "God's grace and mercy [are] tremendous and we're praying. We're praying for them. We're praying for James Shaw Jr. Thank God for him, for coming out of his own self to save himself and save others."Supporters say the goal of the event is to continue the healing process and help the community move forward from the terrible tragedy.At 7 a.m., community members held another moment of silence, "standing tall" five minutes for or each of the eight victims of the Waffle House shooting.The group stood silently for 40 minutes total. 1212

An 8-year-old girl in Florida was seriously injured when a massive tree limb fell on her Monday, as she was playing in a school playground during recess.Patricia Whidden suffered a fractured skull when the limb fell on her, dropping from a live oak at Edward Upthegrove Elementary School in LaBelle."It's an extremely tragic incident, and we are investigating," said Lucinda Kelley, deputy superintendent of Hendry County District Schools.Patricia's aunt Kristi Whidden said her niece has bleeding and swelling of the brain, and is recovering at a hospital in Delray Beach."Right now, she's being kept sedated to give her brain and body a chance to recover," Kristi Whidden said.Live oak trees form a canopy over many schools in Hendry County. Kelley said she believes the limb that fell on Patricia was a freak accident, although the LaBelle area did sustain a lot of damage from Hurricane Irma last fall."The limb that fell did not appear to be, at first glance, related to that," Kelley said. "We are going to ask for the help of an expert arborist to come in and examine all of the trees."In the meantime, the the school district has closed playground where Patricia was hurt. Although sedated, Kristi said her niece did wake up at one point during the night, and was able to respond to questions with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down."Right now, the focus is on Patricia and getting her through this," she said. "A lot of people have sent their prayers and positive vibes."Upthegrove Elementary is organizing a sock hop fundraiser to help Patricia's family with expenses. Americans are calling out practices at some car lots more now than ever before.“We found a pattern of abusive and deceptive practices that the auto loan industry has been employing and unfortunately these complaints have sharply increased during the pandemic,” said Lucy Baker, Consumer Program Associate at U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG).Looking at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's consumer complaint database, the U.S. PIRG found between March and July, there were more than 2,800 auto loan and lease complaints. That's more than any other 5-month period.This includes complaints like not getting auto loan relief, which the CARES Act didn't specify, but some lenders offered to work with customers. Also, complaints about broken payment systems that led to late fees, and issues with loan terms changing or yo-yo financing.“You go into a dealership, you buy a car you sign on the dotted line, but as your driving away, you get a phone call from your dealer that says, ‘hey the financing has fallen through, I’m going to take your car back unless you agree to pay more or pay a higher interest rate,’” said Baker.There were complaints about harassment over repossession and debt, as well as expensive add-ons like warranties, insurance, and service plans.High pressure tactics were another problem.“If you put somebody in a room for a long period of time, they're going to be so frustrated that they are going to want to get out of there and then you can pressure them into buying these things they don’t need,” said Baker.U.S. PIRG is pushing policymakers for auto loan relief programs, banning repossession, debt collection and negative credit reporting.It also has some recommendations for customers: Don't roll an old auto loan into a new loan, avoid buy here – pay here lots, and don’t get focused on low monthly payments. Instead, compare the total cost of the loan including interest paid.Officials also suggest filing complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. ANDERSON, Ind. -- An armored truck spilled money on the interstate after it hit several potholes on I-69 early Saturday morning and crashed into a ditch. The crash happened near Anderson around 1 a.m. local time.The Garda armored delivery truck driver told the deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office that he hit several potholes which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and he overcorrected, hitting a guardrail and sliding into a ditch.The rolled several times before it landed on its side. Deputies say some money was on the road after the crash but most of it remained secured in the armored delivery vehicle.The driver and his passenger were treated for minor injuries on the scene.  The armored truck delivery company sent another truck to the scene to recover the money and the truck.  842
