Amid rescues in devastated areas, officials in the Bahamas raised the death toll from Hurricane Dorian, brought in body bags and coolers and said hundreds of residents remain missing.Officials gave the sobering outlook Thursday as the official toll climbed to 23. But they are expecting many more than that as the extent of the damage becomes clear."Literally hundreds, up to thousands, of people are still missing," Joy Jibrilu, director general of the country's tourism and aviation ministry, told CNN's Michael Holmes.Body bags, additional morticians and refrigerated coolers to properly store bodies are being transported to Abaco and other affected areas, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands said during a radio interview on Guardian Radio 96.9 FM. Four morticians in Abaco are embalming remains because officials have run out of coolers, he said."The public needs to prepare for unimaginable information about the death toll and the human suffering," Sands said."Make no bones about it, the numbers will be far higher than 23," he said. "It is going to be significantly higher than that. And it's just a matter of retrieving those bodies, making sure we understand how they died. It seems like we are splitting hairs, but not everyone who died, died in the storm.""It's going to be huge," he said. There was some good news amid the desperate search for survivors. The US Coast Guard said it had rescued 201 residents as of Thursday. Rescues have concentrated on Bahamas' northern islands, as international teams sent small planes and helicopters to reach those stranded and feed the displaced."Our emergent priority is to get the critically wounded out and help the government of the Bahamas get the infrastructure back up so it's safe, sanitary and livable -- at least on a temporary basis -- for those folks," Capt. James Passarelli, chief of staff of the Coast Guard's 7th District, told CNN.Teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax, Virginia, are also helping survivors on the hard-hit Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama, the US Agency for International Development said.A British naval vessel has joined the effort, distributing food and water, and clearing streets of debris, Bahamian Minister of National Security Marvin Dames said Wednesday. About 60,000 people may be in dire need of food relief, the World Food Programme has said.Dorian, the strongest hurricane ever to hit the Bahamas, wiped out whole neighborhoods, then lingered for days, pounding the same battered places again and again.Though the storm targeted only a small section the Bahamas -- a nation of more than 700 islands -- it still inflicted "generational devastation," Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said.Service members rush to helpAt least 80 people had been rescued and evacuated Thursday morning from the Abacos, a government official told CNN. Many were flown to the Odyssey Aviation center outside Nassau Airport, where a CNN team saw rescue and relief aid helicopters and small planes landing and taking off."Most of the operations to date have been relocating and transporting the critically injured to a higher level of medical care," Passarelli, the Coast Guard official, said. Many of those rescued were taken to Nassau, he said. The Coast Guard now has 10 fixed-wing aircraft, 14 rescue helicopters and at least three different cutters -- a term used to identify vessels -- in the Bahamas to assist, spokesman Chief Warrant Officer Barry Lane said.More help is on the way.At least 8 metric tons of food were on their way from Miami to the Bahamas, Herve Verhoosel, a spokesman for the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) said in a statement.Another 85 metric tons of "ready to eat" meals would be brought in the next three months, and the WFP was organizing an airlift of storage units and generators that will be brought to the Bahamas from Panama, the spokesman said. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies planned to receive relief supplies in Nassau on Thursday afternoon, the organization said in a statement."Getting relief to people in need is our number one priority," it said. "We are doing everything we can to get aid to hard-to-reach places in the wake of Hurricane Dorian."The Red Cross efforts were hampered by damaged roads and telecommunications infrastructure, the statement added.Resources have been cut offAs authorities rushed to respond to the damage, they have come up against limited access to important resources. The 4466

After one of its cars made a high-speed run on a German test track, Bugatti says it is the first production auto manufacturer to make a car that exceeded 300 miles per hour.A specially modified Bugatti Chiron, driven by Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace, went 304.8 miles per hour on a 5.5 mile straightaway on Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany, the company said. Bugatti is owned by the Volkswagen Group, which also owns Lamborghini and Bentley.Bugatti is a "production auto manufacturer," meaning it makes multiple copies of the same car for use on public roads albeit, in Bugatti's case, in low numbers and at very high prices. But this was not the ordinary sort of Chiron one can buy for million from the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France. This record was set by a prototype Chiron that Bugatti developed in cooperation with the Italian race car manufacturer Dallara. (Cars built solely to compete for speed records have gone as fast as over 500 miles per hour.)In addition to making safety alterations for such high speeds, the companies modified the car's body to improve aerodynamics. The tires were also specially developed by Michelin, which makes the tires for regular Chiron cars as well. The tires are still legal for road use but they were reinforced to withstand these extremely high speeds."It's inconceivable that a car would be capable of this. But the Chiron was well 1416

After targeting keto and paleo dieters, Chipotle is courting vegetarians. The fast casual chain on Monday expanded its new line of diet-based bowls to include vegan and vegetarian options. "Lifestyle bowls" launched earlier this year with Whole30 and double protein meals in addition to the keto and paleo bowls. The lifestyle bowls are a way for Chipotle to market itself to a wide variety of customers focused on health, especially as it rebounds from E. coli and norovirus scares from a few years ago. And the vegetarian and vegan options could help raise awareness among an increasingly important customer base.Chipotle first introduced its vegan protein option, Sofritas, in 2014. Demand for Sofritas has continued to grow, the company said. Last year, it cooked 7.5 million pounds of Sofritas. Vegetarian and vegan meals made up roughly 12% of all the meals Chipotle sold in 2018."We've found that many people are increasingly looking for plant-based protein options," said Chris Brandt, Chipotle's chief marketing officer. The bowls don't include new vegan or vegetarian ingredients. They're only available as pre-configured options on Chipotle's website or mobile app.Taco Bell recently tried a similar tactic. In January, Taco Bell announced a plan to test out a vegetarian menu board that would highlight the restaurant's current vegetarian options, including tacos, tostadas burritos and crunchwraps. Putting all of the meat-free items on one menu should make it easier for vegetarians to see their options, Taco Bell explained. For Chipotle, the lifestyle bowls are a way not only to lure vegetarian eaters, but to create positive hype for the brand.During an earnings call in February, CEO Brian Niccol said that the lifestyle bowls "resonated with consumers in a big way." CFO John Hartung said the bowls "created an awful lot of buzz and interest.""The whole idea here is to really emphasize again that Chipotle can be an option for virtually any diet," said Sharon Zackfia, an analyst who covers restaurants for the research group of asset manager William Blair. By raising awareness of the many different diets Chipotle is compatible with, it is "eliminating the veto factor," she said.Chipotle has come a long way since it suffered following an E. coli outbreak that 60 Chipotle customers in 14 states ill in late 2015 and early 2016.Now, customers are coming back. In 2018, the company reported a revenue increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. Sales at restaurants open at least a year jumped 4% in that time frame, and digital sales surged 42.4%.To help drive the rebound, Chipotle unrolled its "for real" marketing campaign, which highlights ingredients and offers transparency into its operations, streamlined its pickup options, expanded its delivery services and made its production lines more efficient, among other things. 2897

Among the many guests who had their pictures taken with President Donald Trump at the White House's annual Hanukkah party last year were two Soviet-born businessmen from Florida, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman. In the picture, which Parnas posted on social media, he and Fruman are seen smiling alongside Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Rudy Giuliani, the President's personal lawyer. At one point during the party that night, Parnas and Fruman slipped out of a large reception room packed with hundreds of Trump donors to have a private meeting with the President and Giuliani, according to two acquaintances in whom Parnas confided right after the meeting.Word of the encounter in the White House last December, which has not been previously reported, is further indication that Trump knew Parnas and Fruman, despite Trump publicly stating that he did not on the day after the two men 898

A Pennsylvania couple is facing felony theft charges after their bank accidentally put 0,000 in their account, and the couple spent most of it instead of contacting the bank, police said.Robert and Tiffany Williams of Montoursville are also facing overdraft fees from the bank of about 7,000, according to the criminal complaint filed in the Lycoming County magisterial district court. In an interview with law enforcement, Tiffany Williams said the money was spent on an SUV, a camper, two four wheelers and a car trailer, among other things, according to an affidavit. The bank error occurred May 31 when a customer in Georgia made a deposit of 0,000, and the BB&T Bank teller entered a wrong account number. When the customer contacted the bank to ask about the missing deposit, investigators discovered the funds had gone into the Williams' joint account, the affidavit said."While we can't comment on the specifics of this issue due to client privacy practices, we always work as quickly as possible to address any issue that affects our clients," Brian Davis, a spokesman for BB&T, told CNN in a statement."We're also continuously working to enhance our client service and operating procedures to provide the best client experience possible."The bank tried to call the couple several timesWhen Tiffany Williams was contacted by the bank on June 21, she said "she no longer had the funds because she had already paid off bills," the affidavit said. Some of the money also went to pay bills and for car repairs, and the couple gave ,000 to "friends in need of money," Tiffany Williams told investigators, according to the affidavit.Tiffany Williams told the bank she would try to come up with a repayment agreement for the money owed, but the bank wasn't able to contact the couple after that June 21 phone conversation, the affidavit said. The bank credited the correct account with the 0,000 and debited the same amount from the incorrect one, the affidavit said. Both Tiffany and Robert Williams told investigators they knew the money didn't belong to them, according to the affidavit.Reached by CNN under a phone number listed in public records for Robert Williams, a man who didn't identify himself said he had "no comment about that at this time," and doesn't yet know the name of the public defender in the case.Nate Weaver, a neighbor of the couple, told 2397
