Attorneys for Harris had asked that he be released and confined at home under strict conditions. Restaurants already reeling with huge financial strains are trying to find innovative solutions to keep their doors open. Some are thinking outside the box and into a bubble.“What you're seeing in Washington D.C. and Chicago and elsewhere are local mayors trying to incentivize and help restaurants winterize their outdoor spaces and really doing whatever they can to encourage outdoor dining,” said Mike Whatley, vice president of state and local affairs for the National Restaurant Association.But with indoor dining shut down in many places across the country, geodesic domes or igloos, tents and mini greenhouses are popping up to help keep diners warm and safe.The National Restaurant Association says a recent survey indicates 49% of full-service restaurant operators say they are taking actions like installing tents or patio heaters to extend their outdoor dining season.Restaurant owner Sophie Huterstein and her staff built 14 4x6 greenhouses for use outside her restaurant, The Darling.“We’ve been utilizing this system of being able to dine together, apart from the moment we reopened after the initial shutdown, as a genuine intent to protect the guests and our staff,” she said.The idea was inspired by an installation in Amsterdam. Calico Critters and a VTech Drill & Learn Toolbox are among several toys a Florida consumer advocacy group has deemed dangerous in its annual toy safety report ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.On Monday, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group Education Fund (PIRG) released its "Trouble in Toyland," a guide to help keep children safe from dangerous toys.The report warns about several toys being sold across the U.S. are choking hazards, recalled toys being resold on eBay, magnets being swallowed, noisy toys, and in-app purchases.When it comes to toys with small parts, the report recommends parents inspecting the toys thoroughly "regardless of what the label does or doesn't say."For noisy toys, the report says they can hurt your child's hearing, so an adult should lower the volume or place tape over the speakers to "muffle the sound."Several toys mentioned in the report include:Neutronball building sets and magnets made by Zen Magnets LLC are considered choking hazards, according to PRIG."Never allow young children to play with high-powered magnets, and talk with older children about the dangers of being careless and leaving them within reach of their siblings," the report stated.Toys that have been recalled - 6" Promotional Aflac Doctor Duck, the Step2 Little Helper's Children's Grocery Shopping Cart, and the Fisher-Price Barbie Dream Camper — were recently found for sale on eBay."When shopping for toys, especially at garage sales and second-hand stores or sites, check saferproducts.gov to confirm the toy hasn't already been recalled," the report said.The report is there to inform the public as well as suggest guidelines for lawmakers. 1683

CARLSBAD (KGTV) -  A new online tool is helping Carlsbad residents voice their opinions on issues and how they prefer their tax dollars spent.Voterfied allows voters to weigh in from their phone or computer. "Who can shout the loudest," was what Carlsbad?Mayor Matt Hall said happened at City Council meetings. "That's not what's best for government, you try to engage as many people as possible," saying the silent majority often went unheard."Their vote goes straight into the elected official's ear, and then the elected official is held accountable because they know how their constituents are voting," COO of Voterfied Lee Ann Allman said.The tool was created when Michael Allman ran for Congress. He wanted a way to easily plug in and crowd source, to discover the needs of the people.Voterfied reached out to Hall first and he held onto the experiment with both hands, "everybody has this equal opportunity, they can hear my voice and I can hear their voice." Lee Ann Allman said there is also an educational component to the tool, "there are links to articles so if a voter wants to find out more about something they can click on the link,"The tool is hack proof and compares information you input to the voter registry, focusing the questions they push out on specific residents.In the six or more months Hall's been testing Voterfied, Carlsbad is already seeing an impact. "Instead of having a community center, the public thought more about having a dog park," Hall said.Carlsbad's next big change?
