SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was stabbed in the hands and pistol whipped in North Park Saturday after refusing to carry drugs from Mexico into the United States, police said.The victim, 49, was pressured by six friends earlier in the day to transport drugs from Mexico across the border, but he refused, said Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department.They saw him later at 3 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of 30th Street, Martinez said."They got into a confrontation with him, and during the confrontation the victim was stabbed in both hands and pistol whipped," the officer said.The victim received a laceration to both hands and a laceration to the top of the head from being pistol whipped, Martinez said.The main suspect was a man known to the victim, he said. The other suspects were three men and two women. They all fled in a white Kia SUV with Mexico plates.Mid City Division detectives will be handling the investigation. 950
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was killed in a fiery solo vehicle crash off Interstate 5 in the Barrio Logan area, authorities said Monday.The crash was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday on southbound I- 5 near Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Strickland said.Investigators determined a pickup truck hit the center divide, then went down an embankment before ending up on a nearby street and catching fire, Strickland said.The truck's driver was pronounced dead at the scene, but no details about the victim were immediately available.The crash shut down the right two lanes near Cesar Chavez Parkway until about 11:45 p.m. Sunday. 675

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Multiple local and nonprofit organizations around San Diego County will host Christmas meals Tuesday for underserved and low-income residents.Salvation Army San Diego will host its 35th annual Christmas meal, beginning at 11 a.m. at Golden Hall at 202 C St. The organization expects hundreds of volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteers will escort attendees to their seats and serve them a traditional holiday meal.Serving Seniors will also host its annual Christmas meal for low- income and homeless San Diego County seniors, many of whom would otherwise spend the holiday alone. About 350 seniors will enjoy a meal of Cornish hen with Mornay sauce, cornbread dressing, whipped potatoes, green peas and carrot cake, according to the organization. The meal begins at 11 a.m. at 1525 Fourth Ave.Rev. Shane Harris, former president of the National Action Network, will host his second annual community Christmas breakfast at the National Black Contractors Association. Attendees will receive a free hot breakfast, free clothes and children will receive free gifts.The event begins at 7 a.m. at 6125 Imperial Ave. According to Harris, the breakfast is open to the public, but foster families, low-income residents, homeless residents and military veterans are all encouraged to attend. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Friday for help in identifying the perpetrator of a felony battery that left a 24-year-old woman seriously injured last weekend in Carmel Valley.The victim was walking to her car with friends in a parking lot in the 12600 block of Torrey Bluff Drive about 9:45 p.m. Sunday when someone threw an unknown type of object at her, possibly from a inside dark-colored SUV, according to San Diego police.The projectile hit the woman in the eye, leaving her with major trauma, including permanent orbital-bone damage.Investigators, who have no description of the assailant, have been checking the area for surveillance footage of the seemingly unprovoked attack but have yet to find any, police said.Anyone who might be able to help detectives track down the perpetrator was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
