SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Ocean Beach Pier reopened Friday morning after unusually strong storms wreaked havoc on the landmark in January, according to the city. The pier's opening comes just in time for the typically busy Memorial Day Weekend. The pier was closed to the public in January after strong storms caused damage to more than 2,200 feet of guard rail, electric, water and sewer lines. The Ocean Beach pier is the second longest on the West Coast at 1,970 feet. It’s also the longest concrete pier in the world. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — There have been 137 community outbreaks reported in San Diego County since June 1, according to San Diego County health officials.Since March 25, the county has reported 164 community outbreaks that have resulted in 1,220 coronavirus cases:March: 3April: 16May: 8June: 34July: 93August: 10County officials broke those numbers down from June 1, 2020, to Aug. 4, 2020, where the majority of community outbreaks have been reported at restaurant/bar and business settings. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Office of Education says schools may hold on-campus classes beginning Tuesday under new guidance. The updated county health orders that take effect June 16 allows all schools -- with the exception of colleges and universities -- to hold on-campus classes as long as the schools comply with measures outlined by the California Department of Public Health.Those measures include face coverings required at all times, daily temperature checks recommended, increased emphasis on hand washing and sanitizing, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting in the classrooms and setting classrooms up to allow for increased physical distance between students.Each school must complete and post a document detailing the actions the school is taking to comply with the industry guidance issued by the state.The order from the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency says: "All public, charter and private schools may hold classes or school business operations on the school campus, provided the school complies with the measures contained in the State COVID-19 Industry Guidance: Schools and School-Based Programs issued by the CDPH (including the face covering requirements contained therein), also incorporating where feasible the guidelines provided in Stronger Together: A Guidebook for the Safe Reopening of California’s Public Schools issued by the California Department of Education. Each school shall complete and post a document detailing the actions the school is taking to comply with the CDPH Industry Guidance measures after considering the CDE Guidelines noted above.
