INDIANAPOLIS — A member of Congress has introduced a bill taking aim at protesters. The "Support Peaceful Protest Act," introduced by Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, would ban protesters convicted on crimes such as violence, looting, or vandalism from federal unemployment assistance. It was introduced on August 28, following several nights of demonstrations in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Protesters would also be held financially liable for the cost of federal policing.In a press release, Banks said:"Antifa thugs are descending on suffering communities, disrupting peaceful protests and leaving violence, looting and vandalism in their wake. They turned Milwaukee, Seattle and Portland into warzones, and now they're moving the chaos to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Who knows which community is next?"The bill is not expected to move in Congress. It’s that time, when stores offer up their best deals on the hottest items. Some of the advertised deals can even cause customers to stand in lines for hours and even camp out the night before the items go on sale. But this could be a big waste of time.“Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale,” says Kevin Brasler, the executive editor of the consumer watch dog group Consumer’s Checkbook.Brasler tracked sales and deals at 19 major retailers for nearly a year to find out which companies are telling the truth when advertising their sales.  "Most of these stores offering big ticket items are just offering the same deal they did before and the same deal they offered the next week,” says Brasler of his findings. “It wasn't a special price."  The worst offenders range from big box stores to high-end retailers. And with Black Friday around the corner, Brasler warns consumers to be cautious of those doorbuster deals, especially those early morning sales urging you to get up to get amazing deals on hot items before they go.   "There's for sure no reason to get excited about most of the items they are selling on Black Friday, because we found the sales they are offering then are just about the same as they otherwise are," he says.  Then there are those buy one and get one half-off sales. Brasler says these, too, are often a sham.  "These sales they just call them different sales; it's really rare that they have a super good price that you better grab right then and there otherwise it will go away forever,” Brasler says.  That's because the less expensive item is usually the one that gets the half-off deal. So, in reality, you're really not saving that much at all.Also, beware of going out of business sales.    "You're not offering them a special price; you're offering them the usual price," Brasler says.  Sometimes, the third-party liquidator prices the items higher than the original price. INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA is in preliminary talks with state and city officials to host the entire 68-team men’s basketball tournament in Indianapolis in the spring, the organization said.Indianapolis was already slated to host the Men’s Final Four from April 3-5, 2021.It is unclear if fans will be allowed to attend the games.“We have learned so much from monitoring other successful sporting events in the last several months, and it became clear it’s not feasible to manage this complex championship in so many different states with the challenges presented by the pandemic,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball. “However, we are developing a solid plan to present a safe, responsible and fantastic March Madness tournament unlike any other we’ve experienced.”The NCAA said the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee emphasized the importance of conducting the tournament in a manageable geographic area that limits travel and provides an environment with competition and practice venues, medical resources and lodging for teams and officials all near each another.This story originally reported on WRTV.com. 1140

In recent days, several coronavirus outbreaks among teams and athletes have demonstrated the enormous challenge ahead for sports leagues attempting to return to action.While non-contact individual sports like NASCAR and golf have been able to resume, many other sports are struggling to formalize plans to return to play. Other than the NFL, which is in its offseason, only one of the five other major sports leagues have a firm return date.Professional soccer’s MLS is slated to resume on July 8 with a tournament being played in Orlando. For professional baseball, hockey and basketball, a resumption of play is still up in the air. The NBA said it plans to resume play in Orlando at some point later in the summer. The NHL is determining two host cities to conduct an expanded postseason. MLB said late Monday that it will require players to accept health and safety protocols before resuming play.But the road to resuming play could contain land mines. Here are a few examples:- The Orlando Pride women’s soccer team, which recently resumed training camp, announced it will not participate in an upcoming tournament after six players tested positive for the coronavirus.- The Basketball Tournament, which is a summer basketball tournament featuring former college and international stars, announced Monday one of its teams withdrew from next month’s next competition after a player tested positive for the virus.- Tennis stars Grigor Dimitrov and Borna Coric both tested positive for the coronavirus after participating in a charity tennis tournament organized by Novak Djokovic. The Adria Tour canceled its final match in Croatia on Sunday after Dimitrov’s diagnosis. Djokovic and the tournament as a whole have come under fire for flouting social distancing norms.- A number of college football teams have reported outbreaks. Clemson had 23 players test positive, and Kansas State said it had 13 positive tests for the virus. College football teams began allowing voluntary workouts on campus earlier this month.Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci placed skepticism on whether the NFL season would even be played."Unless players are essentially in a bubble -- insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day -- it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall," Dr. Fauci told CNN.
