TULSA, Oklahoma -- The suspect in an Amber Alert and stabbing was seen smiling Tuesday afternoon after her arrest.Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma said 39-year-old Taheerah Ahmad stabbed her 11-year-old daughter on Monday night. The 11-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in "very" critical condition, where she remains unconscious.An Amber Alert was issued after police said Ahmad also abducted her eight-year-old child. Ahmad was located around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in a parking lot in Tulsa. The 8-year-old child was also found safe. Police said citizens walking in the area noticed the vehicle and contacted authorities. Ahmad was taken into custody without incident. Police said she had been in that parking area for 17 hours before being found. Police said the woman admitted to the crime. Ahmad said she became upset with her children, and bound two of her children's hands with duct tape. She said the 11-year-old child fought back, and she stabbed the child 50 to 60 times and hit her in the head with a pick ax, according to police. She was arrested on counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, first-degree arson and abuse of a child.  1209

Vice president-elect Kamala Harris confirmed Thursday that her husband would assume the title of "second gentleman" when she is sworn in next month.Because Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, will be the first man to serve as the spouse of the Vice President, there was some question as to his title. The only people to serve in the role have been women, and all have been referred to as the "second lady."While most media outlets, like the writing-style standard-bearer Associated Press, had already been referring to Emhoff as the second gentlemen, Harris confirmed Emhoff's new title on the record during an interview with CNN on Thursday."I think that the term has evolved into the second gentleman," Harris said.CNN anchor Jake Tapper joked that he preferred the title "second dude," and Harris added that some of Emhoff's friends might be "inclined to call him that."When asked if Harris would call Emhoff the "second gentleman," Harris joked that she would call him "honey."Emhoff, a lawyer, has said he will leave his law practice on Inauguration Day to focus his time in his new role. Uber has agreed to pay 56 current and former employees about ,900 each, or .9 million, to settle their claims of gender discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment.On Monday, lawyers for the plaintiffs filed paperwork in a Northern California district court that outlined how a million settlement announced in April would be divvied up. In addition to the .9 million, another .1 million will be divided among more than 480 workers, including the 56 who are receiving the other payouts.The lawsuit was filed against Uber in October 2017 by three Latina engineers who alleged they were paid less than their white or Asian male colleagues. The women claimed Uber used a discriminatory "stack ranking" system, alleging "female employees and employees of color are systematically undervalued ... because [they] receive, on average, lower rankings despite equal or better performance."Those stack rankings were then used, in part, to determine promotions, according to the lawsuit. Uber also set employee pay based on their past compensation, which inherently disadvantages women.Fifty-six workers came forward to describe their experiences with discrimination and harassment at Uber. They are a subset of a broader class that includes about 480 women and underrepresented minorities who worked in certain software engineering jobs. That broader pool of people will receive a payout of about ,700 each, based on their length of employment, title and location.Two people have opted out of the settlement thus far for undisclosed reasons, according to the paperwork.Related: Uber finally hires a chief financial officerUber did not immediately respond to request for comment.
