In Fort Collins, Colorado, there’s a place where athletes train seven days a week. The gym, run by Ryan Schultz, is called Trials Mixed Martial Arts and it’s not an ordinary gym.“This gym isn’t for your average person,” Schultz says “You’re going to be pushed here. You’re going to be tested. Overall, I think this place is for everybody. I think you just have to have the right mind set.” This gym is opened to athletes, and Schultz said that includes everyone. “If you’re an adaptive athlete, for example someone who had their leg removed, we have stuff for you as well here,” Schultz says. “But our mentality here is that there’s no laying down in life. Life doesn’t wait for anybody. I think that when people get a disease, or some sort of diagnosis it’s overwhelming for them and they tend to shut down. That’s more of the time to keep moving forward.” Schultz has multiple programs running through his gym. One of the programs was started by him and his friend Glenn Beach.“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease five years ago,” Beach says. “And I’ve been training with Ryan to help treat it.” “Glenn brought to me the Rock Steady Program,” Schultz says. “I like Rock Steady, because they have research that proves this type of program works.”Rock Steady uses boxing to help those fighting Parkinson’s. Beach says this program changed his life. “I’ve had, I would say, a 100 percent improvement,” Beach says. “I had no control over my left hand. Now, I only have a subtle tremor every once in a while. It’s so much more manageable now, and a lot of it has to do with the training I got through Rock Steady.” The course is offered three times a week, and the workouts take about one hour. Beach says that the class does progress assessments every six to 12 months. According to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, it's estimated 1 million people in the United States are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The foundation reports more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year. 1999

It’s a boot camp workout at Vital Strength and Fitness in Denver, and as the sweat starts pouring, the athletes are looking for an edge. “The quicker you can recover, the more you can train,” says gym owner Vinnie Lopez. “The more you can train, the more you get better.” To help with his post-workout recovery, Lopez, a former MMA fighter, turns to intravenous therapy. “It makes you feel superhuman,” Lopez says of IV therapy. “Which is why it’s not allowed in mixed martial arts anymore, because it brings you back better than you felt before.” Banned by some sports but now coveted by many businesses, these bags of saline and vitamins are being marketed to give your body a boost. Now, more people are paying big bucks to have these medical potions pumped into their bodies. “Honestly, it’s a game changer,” former NFL cheerleader Erica Beard says of using IVs. “You can notice a difference in your energy level.”Beard, a mother of two, gets an IV drip once a month at Denver Hydrate. She says these vitamin cocktails help fight fatigue and improve her health.“It helps with muscle recovery and staying hydrated,” she says. “It’s not easy drinking enough water as we need to.”From Nashville to Las Vegas, IV therapy bars are popping up across the country, targeting everyone form weekend warriors to those nursing a hangover. It costs anywhere from to 0 a session. But does it really work, or is this just a pumped-up placebo effect? “It really helps,” says ER nurse Gianna Nardi, who administers IV drips on the side. “You're going to absorb 100 percent of the vitamins.”Many other medical professionals, however, say IVs aren't worth the cost. They say many symptoms people are trying to cure aren't caused by dehydration and that most people can just drink the fluids they need. However, Beard disagrees with the claims. “I think it’s funny that they think its placebo,” she says. They can hate on it until they try it.” 1946

John Sherer is the organist and director of music at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Illinois. “Being a musician is a true calling, because through music you can touch people, you can heal people, you can connect to people in a much, much deeper way, than just through words,” he says. Sherer believes music has a way of binding people together. “Hearing a pipe organ connects you to the universe in a primal way, in a very profound way,” he says.People who walk into the church as he’s playing, say the impact is immediate.“I feel like it’s amazing and magnificent," says a child walking into the church. "I feel like God is right here and is right next to me."Sherer discovered his calling to be a musician early in life, and he’s a big reason why a very special organ in Chicago exists today.“This is the largest pipe organ in Chicago, with well over 8,000 pipes,” Sherer explains. “You’ve heard the phrase ‘pulling out all the stops’, well this is where it really comes from. You pull out all the stops, you’re going all the way, you’re going to get a big, big sound.” The creation of pipe organ took 10 years. Designed by John Michael Quimby, a consultant from New York, the instrument was completed in 2016.“It’s really like having a whole orchestra right under your fingertips," he says. "You’ve got English horn and French horn and flutes and strings and trumpets and trombones, and no two organs are alike.”It takes your entire body to play the instrument, and the intricate details are what make each organ one-of-a-kind. It also provides a full spectrum of sound. “Mozart himself said it was the king of instruments.”The organ is capable of the lowest frequencies any instrument can make, and the highest frequencies any human ear can hear.“The smaller the pipe, the higher the sound. That is the highest note in the organ, so that pipe’s about the sound of my little finger,” he says.To appreciate the instrumental wonder, you have to go inside.“The organ starts in the basement where the blower is located," Sherer says. "The air from the blower goes through massive tubes up to the pipes, and the pipes go all the way up to the ceiling. It’s like being in a tree house at this point, because you’re surrounded by so many different sections of the organ.”Sherer says the pipes are located in the front of the church, in the back of the church and on the sides of the church. The whole building becomes part of the instrument from basement to ceiling, front to back and side to side. The pipes in the back help create a surround sound so everyone can feel connected to the music. The finished product is a beautiful amalgamation of sight and sound.“When people walk into Fourth Presbyterian Church, their eyes make them go ‘ahhhh’ and when they hear the organ, their ears make them go ‘ooooh.’”Sherer explains it as an out-of-body experience as you’re aware of the whole space around you. “I hope that when people hear this organ, they feel comfort and healing, and that they are inspired and lifted up," he says. "And I hope that when they experience the sound of this organ, they realize that there’s something in the universe that’s larger than them.” 3184

If you’re looking to make some extra cash this year, you may want to consider applying for a job with the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau is ramping up its national recruiting efforts to hire up to 500,000 temporary, part-time census takers for the 2020 Census in communities across the country. The goal is to reach more than 2 million applicants. Officials say the positions offer competitive pay, flexible hours, paid training, and weekly paychecks. 463
