President Donald Trump, facing a drastically revised death toll in Puerto Rico a year after dual hurricanes devastated the island, offered a still-rosy outlook of his administration's handling of the disaster on Wednesday."I think we did a fantastic job in Puerto Rico," Trump told CNN's Jim Acosta during an exchange with reporters at the White House. "We're still helping Puerto Rico."It was an optimistic accounting of his administration's handling of the natural disaster, which left much of the US territory without power for months and resulted in thousands of deaths.The island's governor formally raised the death toll from 64 to 2,975 on Tuesday following a study conducted by researchers at George Washington University.The study accounted for Puerto Ricans who succumbed to the stifling heat and other after-effects of the storm and were not previously counted in official figures.Trump has trumpeted his handling of the storm's aftermath, including saying in the days afterward the storm had resulted in a relatively small number of deaths compared to a "real catastrophe like Katrina." Hurricane Katrina, which devastated parts of Louisiana in 2005, killed roughly 1,200.He also awarded himself a "10 out of 10" on disaster recovery efforts during an Oval Office meeting last year with Puerto Rico's governor."Did we do a great job?" he asked his guest.Through it all, Trump has maintained that Puerto Rico's languishing infrastructure and geography hampered efforts. He said on Wednesday an outdated electric grid and the territory's status as an island continued to the difficulty."Puerto Rico was actually more difficult because of the fact it was an island," he said. "It's much harder to get things on the island."Trump has come under stiff criticism for his handling of the disaster, principally from Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of Puerto Rico's capital city San Juan."The administration killed the Puerto Ricans with neglect. The Trump administration led us to believe they were helping when they weren't up to par, and they didn't allow other countries to help us," Yulín Cruz said on CNN Wednesday, later adding, "Shame on President Trump. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The suspect in a fatal stabbing in Rhode Island last month was apprehended apparently trying to cross from California into Mexico.U. S. Border Patrol says 35-year-old Michael Domenech approached the checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, in a car at about 2 a.m. Saturday.When agents approached the driver, he drove away from the checkpoint. Authorities say agents used a tire deflation device to deflate one of the car's tires.The pursuit continued for 20 minutes until Domenech was taken into custody.Domenech is wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Cory Vargas in Providence on Sept. 24. 640

Cyber experts say you should first focus on protecting your personal information that could have been compromised. Tekesha Saffold realized her account was breached when she logged in, but soon realized it wasn’t her account. She reached out to Facebook by phone, but she got an automated recording directing her to their troubleshooting page online. “I have no access to my account at this point, and it has all my information in it,” Saffold says. Saffold completed the steps Facebook told her to take in order to gain access back into her account, but it didn’t work.Cyber expert Fred Kneip, with Cyber GRX, says the most important thing to do is figure out what other accounts you sign into using your Facebook credentials. “The first things hackers do is take those passwords or credentials,” he explains. Hackers try to apply those passwords to banking sites and healthcare sites to get more information, and ultimately, steal your identity. That’s why Kneip says to focus on your passwords.“If you are updating your passwords and using unique passwords, that’s the safest way to address this,” Kneip says.He also suggests turning on the dual-factor notification on Facebook. It sends you a text with a set of numbers you have to plug into get into your account, along with your password. He says it’s twice the protection.   1592

Protests broke out in Atlanta early Saturday, hours after at least one Atlanta Police officer shot and killed Rayshard Brooks, 27, outside a Wendy’s late Friday.In the wake of Friday's shooting, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced the resignation of Police Chief Erika Shields. "It has become abundantly clear that over the last couple weeks in Atlanta is that while we have a police force full of men and women who work alongside our communities with honor respect and dignity," Bottoms said, "there has been a disconnect with what our expectations are, and should be as it relates to interactions with our officers and the communities in which they are entrusted to protect."Body worn or dash cam video of the incident was released to the public late Saturday. Video circulating on social media reportedly of the incident shows a man grabbing a stun gun from police during a struggle and running from officers. The video shows officers then shooting Brooks as he tried to flee.“The (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) is aware that there is video posted on social media captured by witnesses in this incident. We are reviewing the video & the early investigative information in this case. We’ll provide an update as soon as we can,” the agency said Saturday morning.The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that officers responded to a call of a man who fell asleep behind the wheel in a drive thru. The police accused Brooks of failing a field sobriety test.Police then claimed Brooks struggled with officers during the arrest. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that officers then fired a Taser at Brooks.Eyewitnesses told investigators that Brooks then struggled with officers over the Taser, and that’s when at least one officer shot Brooks.Brooks was transported to the hospital, and he died during surgery.Atlanta has been the site of a number of large protests in recent weeks in the wake of the death of George Floyd. Floyd died on Memorial Day in police custody after a Minneapolis police officer held a knee against his neck for nearly nine minutes.The NAACP reacted to Saturday's shooting via Twitter. "Stop urging the black community to be patient as our people are being gunned down by those sworn to 'protect and serve.'
