WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Just ahead of Thanksgiving, a driver had a rare encounter with two wild turkeys on a highway in northeast San Diego County this week. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention. She grabbed her camera to get proof of the unusual confrontation. “There’s always wildlife,” Malloy said, noting this was her first experience with wild turkeys. “I’ve dodged quail…and there are coyotes.” Eventually, another car approached from behind, which drew the ire of the turkeys. Malloy used the opportunity to drive away, flashing her lights at other drivers to warn them about the wildlife hazard. VISTA (CNS) - Murder and child cruelty charges were filed Friday against a man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home.Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused in Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo, whose body was found in the home's bathroom.Police have not commented on her cause of death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used in her killing. In addition to murder, he's also charged with child cruelty in regards to Mariah, as well her 6-year-old sister, Viviana, who was also in the home at the time.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedAraujo was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom Friday afternoon, but did not appear because he was being held in "enhanced observation housing," though court staff did not elaborate. He's tentatively due to be arraigned Monday afternoon.The child's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, police spokesman Tom Bussey said.The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. (KGTV) -- Deputies arrested a man they say kidnapped his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son early Wednesday morning.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the alleged kidnapping happened on the 300 block of Hillside Terrace at 2:15 a.m.Authorities say Guillermo Cruz, 32, was intoxicated when he drove to his girlfriend’s house, jumped a balcony fence, and abducted the woman’s sleeping 8-year-old son. Deputies say Cruz is not the child’s father.After calling 911, deputies spotted the vehicle Cruz was driving and pulled him over before making the arrest. The young boy was unharmed.Deputies say they noticed Cruz had an empty vodka bottle in the car with him. He was arrested on multiple charges, including child abduction, kidnapping, child endangerment, driving under the influence and burglary. 832

The Labor Department’s report, released Thursday, suggests that companies are still cutting a historically high number of jobs, though the weekly numbers have become less reliable as states have increased their efforts to root out fraudulent claims and process earlier applications that have piled up.
