Not too long ago, to keep him company, a friend brought him a boy cat named Fluffy.Over the first few weeks they had together, Williams says he and Fluffy hit it off right away.“I looked at him and hey, I just fell in love with him,” said Williams.As it’s safe to say we all do with our pets, Williams talked to Fluffy quite a lot. When the senior got calls on his cellphone, he’d joke around with Fluffy then too.“The phone would ring, and I would say ‘ring-a-ding,’” said Williams. “And I didn’t know he’d pick up on it.”Then, a few days ago, Williams slipped and fell getting out of the shower. He couldn’t move.“My arm was pinned under me, and the hours kept going by,” said Williams. “16 hours…”From roughly 8 a.m. until midnight later that day, Williams laid in agony. The door was closed, and his Life Alert was in the other room on the charger. His phone was in the bathroom with him, but just out of reach on the counter.Lucky for Williams, Fluffy was in the room too. And whether or not he knew it, he’d been training Fluffy for this moment accidentally.“So I said ‘ring-a-ding Fluffy, you’re my only hope,’” Williams said, tearing up. “And he was. It wasn’t even five minutes later I felt something hit my hand. And I’m here because of it.”The cat had brought Williams his phone and he was able to dial 911.“I relive it a million times. What if he wouldn’t have been in there with me? I’d be dead today,” he added.Now Williams, who served with the U.S. Army in Korea, is fine – left only with some soreness and bumps and bruising. Steve Wynn will not be getting severance pay following his resignation from Wynn Resorts earlier this month.RELATED: Las Vegas police receive two reports of sexual misconduct by Steve WynnAccording to a document filed Feb. 15 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and signed by new Wynn Resorts CEO Matthew Maddox, Wynn will not receive any other compensation. He also cannot compete against the company for two years.The separation agreement also notes that Wynn must leave his residence at Wynn Las Vegas by June 1 and pay fair market rent until that date. Wynn can terminate the lease before that date. Wnny wll also cease to have administrative support after May 31 and health insurance through the company after Dec. 31, according to the document. Wynn's employment with Wynn Resorts began on Oct. 4, 2002 and ended on Feb. 6, 2018. He resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct. The document also acknowledges that Wynn agrees to cooperate with Wynn Resorts Board of Directors investigation into his time at the company. TAMPA, Fla. — A volunteer at Carole Baskin's Big Cat Rescue in Tampa was bitten by a tiger Thursday morning and sustained "an extreme injury to her arm."According to the organization, Candy Couser — who has volunteered with the animal sanctuary for five years — was injured while feeding a 3-year-old Tiger named Kimba on Thursday.According to a press release, Baskin said that Kimba nearly tore Couser's arm "off her shoulder" as she tried to feed him. The volunteers, according to the release, helped Couser stem the bleeding until an ambulance arrived and took her to St. Joseph's Hospital.Couser is expected to survive the attack.In the release, Baskin said that Couser had reached into a cage to open a door that had been clipped shut and that she should have contacted a supervisor when she realized the door was clipped. She also said Couser had violated protocols by putting her arm inside a cage with a tiger."Candy was still conscious and insisted that she did not want Kimba Tiger to come to any harm for this mistake," Baskin said in her press release. "(Kimba) is being placed in quarantine for the next 30 days as a precaution, but was just acting normal due to the presence of food and the opportunity."Baskin and Big Cat Rescue were featured prominently in the massively popular Netflix docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.""Tiger King" spent much of its time focusing on the feud between Baskin and fellow big cat park owner Joe Exotic, which included accusations by him that Baskin was behind the disappearance of her ex-husband, Don Lewis. Baskin has denied those allegations and has not been charged with a crime in connection with Lewis' death.In January 2019, Joe Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison in connection with a murder-for-hire plot in an attempt to have Baskin killed. He was also convicted of several violations of the Endangered Species Act.Baskin was upset with how the show portrayed the captive tiger trade.Big Cat Rescue is closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak. Statistics released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Friday claimed that 10,000 Americans were injured from firework mishaps in 2019, resulting in 12 fatalities.The agency says that 73% of the incidents occurred between June 21 and July 21. While seemingly more harmless than other fireworks, sparklers accounted for a plurality of the injuries, resulting in 900 injuries, half of those were from children under the age of 5.The CSPC said that fireworks killed at least 12 Americans in 2019, several of the deaths happened when victims held and ignited fireworks.With many local firework shows canceled or postponed this summer, there is concern over even more mishaps occurring this summer."Many Americans will not get to see the grand, professional fireworks displays this 4th of July given the cancellations of public celebrations and stay-at-home orders across the country. As an alternative, people are purchasing their own fireworks in an effort to recreate that tradition at home," said CPSC Commissioner Dana Baiocco. "The need for safety awareness regarding fireworks is greater than ever," she said, "and anyone who plans to use consumer fireworks this year should review and follow CPSC's simple safety tips to prevent injuries and incidents."The CSPC issued the following tips for a safe celebration:Never allow young children to play with, or ignite, fireworks, including sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit—hot enough to melt some metals.Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy, in case of fire or other mishap.Light fireworks one at a time, then move away quickly.Never try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks. Soak them with water and throw them away.Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Move to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks.Never point or throw fireworks (including sparklers) at anyone.After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding the device to prevent a trash fire.Make sure fireworks are legal in your area, and only purchase fireworks that are labeled for consumer (not professional) use.For more fireworks safety tips, visit www.cpsc.gov/fireworks. 2308
