SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard at Naval Base San Diego started Sunday morning and as of Monday afternoon, continues to burn, adding smoke to the sky and raising concerns over air quality in San Diego.Related: USS Bonhomme Richard fire: 57 treated for injuries after fire erupts aboard Naval Base San Diego shipBill Brick is the Chief of Monitoring and Technical Services Division at the Air Pollution Control District and said there are concerns in some areas but not everywhere. He said they have received reports of people smelling the smoke as far away as Oceanside and Escondido. According to Brick, those people who are farther away may be able to smell the smoke but the particulate matter is less concentrated, so it should not pose a health risk.He said the people who should be aware of health concerns are those nearby the fire who end up directly in the path of the smoke due to wind and also those with prior health concerns such as asthma, lung or heart problems. He said if anyone is close enough to smell the smoke and also gets irritated eyes, they should also be aware that there could be health risks. For any of those people, he advises to avoid exercise, go inside and close the windows to avoid breathing in that air.Brick also said that a problem with this fire is they don’t know exactly what has burned. While the Navy has said they are still within EPA standards, Brick said the focus has been on fighting the fire so it has been hard for them to determine everything that has burned. Brick said they did take samples of the air to see if anything toxic is in the air, but those results will not come back for a few days, so he advises everyone to use caution while the fire still burns. 1751

Margot Schein and Julian Parris told 10News they made the decision to get married at Costco because, after meeting on a dating app, they decided to have their first date at the store. According to Schein, the couple decided to wed at Costco on their three-year anniversary. The wedding included a custom-made cake from the store, an archway and pallets to hold up bouquets of flowers. Staff at the store even took the time to set up chairs for the event as well as decorate a portion of the Costco with rose petals. “I feel like we have a whole new Costco family,” Margot said. 720

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A lawyer for the man who styled the hair of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says he believes she was set up when she went to a San Francisco salon that wasn't permitted to have indoor services because of the coronavirus pandemic. Pelosi is facing backlash after Fox News Channel aired footage showing the speaker walking through the salon without a mask on. But a lawyer for the stylist says the owner gave permission for the appointment and made “vitriolic and incendiary comments" about Pelosi. (KGTV) - A former North County Boy Scout said he is one of hundreds of sexual abuse victims in a new lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America.Matt, who only wanted to use his first name, joined the Boy Scouts when he was around 13 years old. He really loved the outdoor activities.“We had a lot of great trips… a lot of good camp outs,” Matt said. Roughly a year after he joined, things changed.“We had an assistant Scoutmaster that started to join us on trips,” Matt said. “He just started spending more time with kids and a lot of these bad things started to happen.”The new lawsuit alleging sexual abuse was filed on behalf of one former scout in Pennsylvania. The total number of alleged victims in this latest wave of accusations is more than 850, according to attorney Andrew Van Arsdale. Matt is one of them.“Our oldest [alleged victim] is in his late 80s. Our youngest is 14-years-old,” Van Arsdale said. Van Arsdale is one of the lawyers involved in the group “Abused in Scouting.” The group came together after hearing the Boy Scouts were potentially filing for bankruptcy. They began a campaign telling victims that they no longer have to be in hiding. “It’s time to come forward. It’s the right time now and the response was overwhelming,” Van Arsdale said. He said he is “100 percent” expecting more people to come forward. For Matt, time has not healed all wounds of what he said the assistant Scoutmaster did to him.“He had come at me on multiple times. I think the first time, I was able to get him away from me,” Matt said. He was able to get away the first time, but not every time. He specifically remembers a camping trip in Camp Pendleton.“I woke up and he had gotten his hands on my genitals and massaging me… I woke up and pushed him off,” Matt said. “I think I just really kind of put it at the back of my head and just tried to forget about it.” But he didn’t forget and he said other kids in his troop were also abused by this man. In a statement, the Boy Scouts of America said that they “believe victims” and that the organization has “taken significant steps over many years to ensure that we respond aggressively and effectively to reports of sexual abuse.” The full statement can be read here. For some, it’s too little too late. “They knew it was a problem for a long time,” Van Arsdale said.“Anytime you got kids with adults having access to kids, you better make sure those adults are reliable, good people. And I don’t know that the scouts are doing that now. I would hope they are, but I know back in the day they weren’t,” Matt said. Matt said he quit because of that assistant Scoutmaster.
