ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man has died following a deputy-involved shooting in Alpine Monday afternoon.  The man's family later identified him as Daniel Ayala. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies shot Ayala at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Alpine Boulevard around 3 p.m. during a confrontation.No deputies were injured, sheriff's officials said.According to Lt. Michael Blevins, dispatchers had received several 911 calls reporting a man yelling in the apartment complex. Blevins said at one point he made statements threatening to kill people. A witness told 10News, Ayala had pounded on his door, yelling incoherently.When deputies arrived they say they went up to Ayala's apartment."He exited the apartment with a knife in his hand and advanced towards the deputies," said Lt. Blevins.That's when the deputies opened fire. Blevins said more than one deputy fired a gun, though he said they were still investigating exactly who discharged their weapon and how many shots were fired. 1064

(KGTV) — An East County dog owner is crediting a pet psychic for reuniting her with her missing, injured dog.7-year-old Bonnie bolted out of the front door of Missy Benker's home after the door was left open late Tuesday night. "Definitely a desperate feeling," said Benker.The Dachshund mix and another dog, Holly, escaped the home together. An extensive search of Benker's 20-acre ranch turned up nothing. Holly appeared early Wednesday morning.RELATED: Escondido City Council to decide fate of pet alpacas"The way she was acting, it was like she had been through something traumatic," said Benker.Frantic, Benker called on pet psychic Jennifer Harmel, who asked for a photo of Bonnie. She says that helped her tap into Bonnie's energy."I could see what she was seeing, because she was sending me pictures of what she saw around her," said Harmel.Benker says Harmel zeroed in on a field just beyond her ranch, near some trees and large rocks. Harmel told her the dog had been attacked with injuries on the left side of her face and right side of her body. She added that Bonnie was scared and hiding. She said, 'I'm going home,'" said Harmel.That's when Benker decided to open a particular gate on the property, closest to the search area. About 20 minutes later, something remarkable happened. Beyond happy to see her," said Benker.The injured Bonnie had bite marks, likely from a coyote, on the left side of her face and right side of her body — just as Harmel said."No way she could have known these things ... ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- As firefighters work towards 100% containment in the Valley Fire, business owners are cleaning up the damage left behind by the flames. Alpine Dog Ranch is a vacation ranch for dogs to say while their owners are away. When the Valley Fire started, the ranch's owner, Thomas MacKinnon, was taking care of nine dogs, including his own. He quickly rushed to get them all into a van and tried to get out, but MacKinnon says they were trapped by flames. He and several neighbors took refuge in an open field until the flames passed. Firefighters and a 747 Supertanker saved all of the structures. No one was hurt. The fire did burn a lot of the greenery on the ranch and now MacKinnon is cleaning up; repairing fencing, the sprinkler system and covering burned patches with woodchips. MacKinnon says the fire was an added challenge on top of a difficult year. Like many businesses, the Alpine Dog Ranch has been struggling. With people not going on vacation and needing a place to leave their dogs, business has been slow. MacKinnon's friends set up a Go Fund Me page to help with the ranch's repairs.
