MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Police took an alleged attempted rapist into custody Sunday after a Saturday morning assault inside a Manhattan subway station, authorities said.The woman, who was headed home from work, was followed off the train and onto the Q train platform at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station around 11 a.m. Saturday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said. Jose Reyes allegedly pushed the 25-year-old woman to the ground and tried to rape her."It's a heinous act," Harrison said. "It's horrible." Bystanders on the platform rushed over to intervene, and Reyes alllegedly stopped the attack, according to police.A witness took cellphone video of the suspect before he fled the station.The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, police said.Reyes had been spotted smoking hookah before the alleged attack, Harrison said. He allegedly had several narcotics in his possession. Lyft announced on Monday that they'll provide 60 million rides to and from vaccination sites for low-income, uninsured, and at-risk communities when COVID-19 vaccines become ready.To help launch the initiative, the ride-sharing company said in a press release that it's partnering with JPMorgan Chase, Anthem Inc., United Way, Epic, Centene Corporation, Modern Health, One Medical, National Hispanic Council on Aging, National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, National Urban League, and the National Action Network."Making sure people can get to vaccination sites when they need to is mission-critical to beating this virus," Lyft Co-Founder and President John Zimmer said in a statement. "This is an opportunity to use our collective strength to mobilize on a massive scale and serve our communities. We cannot let the lack of transportation be a factor in determining whether people have access to healthcare."To make sure people living in underserved communities can get vaccinated, companies and social impact organizations would provide free or discounted rides, while its corporate partners would directly fund the rides. However, the industry is ringing the alarm, warning that most childcare providers are on the brink of closing permanently.“The fixed cost in these small businesses is so high that you are already running at very close margins and then with COVID, that pushed everything over the edge,” said Serah Kaiel.Kaiel has owned and run a small day care, Little Thinkers Montessori in New York City, for nine years. In March, her enrollment dropped by almost 80%, while her cost to stay open went up substantially.“It is like 0 to ,000 per child extra per year,” said Kaiel. "Like for the PPE, for the cleaning products, for all the things that go into keep it as safe and the best practices.”After operating in the red for six months, most providers are now coming to terms with the reality that staying open may not be a possibility much longer.“I represent women of color, I represent single mothers, and we are working on the front lines in this pandemic and we have the most to lose with the least amount of resources available to us,” said Kaiel. “There are moments when it is really scary.”A recent survey done by the National Association for the Education of Young Children shows that without some government aid, roughly 50% of childcare providers throughout the country could close permanently by the end of fall.Experts point out such a substantial loss of childcare could force more people out of the workforce. LOS ANGLES (AP) — Authorities say former “Glee” star Naya Rivera is missing and being searched for at a Southern California lake.The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department late Wednesday confirmed that 33-year-old Rivera is the person being searched for in the waters of Lake Piru, which is approximately 56 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.The search for Nivera was temporarily called when it got dark, but it resumed Thursday morning. 448
