SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bizarre series of events led to a woman visiting San Diego with her family, getting attacked in a Hyatt Hotel lobby by a stranger running from a crash scene. Construction workers tell 10News they witnessed a man drive recklessly through a Mission Bay construction zone around 5 a.m., almost striking vehicles.The workers say they jumped in their truck and followed the driver down Quivira Road hoping to get his license plate information.Instead, they say the driver made a U-turn and crashed into their truck and a parked car. The driver’s car immediately burst into flames, but he wasn’t done just yet.According to the construction workers, the man then ran from the scene toward the Hyatt Hotel in Mission Bay.They say they chased him on foot, and held him down in the hotel lobby, waiting for police to arrive.Witnesses tell 10News that’s when the man got away and attacked a woman who was in the lobby checking out of the hotel.The woman’s husband told 10News the man tackled her then put her in the choke hold. The victim’s mother said she believes the suspect was trying to kill her daughter.The victim, her husband and parents were visiting San Diego from Minnesota. They were scheduled to continue their vacation by flying out to Hawaii this morning.They have to reschedule the trip because the victim was taken to the hospital.Police arrested the suspect. They say his motive is unclear.Investigators have not yet determined if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. 1547

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 36-year-old Filipino man was arrested soon after police say he shot a woman twice in the back as she sat in her car outside a Bay Terraces apartment complex.San Diego Police say Emmanuel Ocular walked up to the 20-year-old woman as she was in her car in the 6800 block of Doriana St. at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Without warning, Ocular shot the woman twice in the back and fled the scene, police say.The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.Soon after, police located Ocular in the 4800 block of Eastgate Mall and arrested him.Police did not immediately have a motive for the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of volunteers is working to make sure homebound seniors get the groceries they need during the Coronavirus Pandemic."We're just a group of friends that saw our Seniors needed help here in San Diego," says volunteer Sydney Prochnow.The effort started over the weekend when one of the volunteers saw an older man struggling to buy groceries. That sparked an idea and a flurry of texts. The call to action quickly turned into advocacy."We jumped on the chance," says volunteer Joshua Daguman. "People said, 'Hey, I can make a website,' 'I can make a GoFundMe,' 'I can do this.' The next day, within honestly four hours, we're up and running."They created StayHomeSD, a donation-based, volunteer-run organization that delivers bags of groceries to any senior who asks for help. The service is free.A GoFundMe donation account pays for the food and delivery costs. Daguman says if the seniors or their families want to pay for what they receive, they're asked to donate to the account."The reward is actually the hope we're bringing to people. The joy, not the groceries," says Daguman.Anyone interested in getting help can sign up online or by phone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2-year-old girl allegedly abducted by her father in Chollas View, triggering an area Amber Alert, was found safe in Escondido Tuesday morning, San Diego police said.According to police, young Charli-Fae Harris was last seen with her father, Lafayette Harris, in the 1000 block of 47th Street at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.Police were notified of the girl’s disappearance by her mother. SDPD officials confirmed 31-year-old Lafayette Harris is under a restraining order related to domestic violence.After an Amber Alert was issued for the child and her father, police located Harris’ white Saturn vehicle in a parking garage near UC San Diego shortly before 6 a.m. However, Harris and his daughter were nowhere to be found.Harris was eventually tracked down at a construction site near UC San Diego Health System in La Jolla. ABC 10News learned Harris, who works at the construction site, was taken into custody without incident.Charli-Fae was found safe just before 8:15 a.m. in an Escondido apartment. Escondido Police said a woman connected to the child's father was watching the news when she realized she had the child police were looking for in her care, so she then called police to alert them.
