On Oct. 18, the SAR government commenced legal proceedings in the court, requesting the court to rule that Leung and Yau have failed to fulfill the legal requirements and should be disqualified as LegCo members in accordance with Article 104 of the Basic Law, the Oaths and Declarations Ordinance, as well as previous court rulings of related cases.

Yu recognized the contribution by the KMT and the CPC in cross-Strait peaceful development, stressing that the two parties should always stand up for the interests of the Chinese nation; improve the well-being of people on both sides of the Strait; overcome difficulties and interferences; and deepen cooperation across the Strait.

Meanwhile, the rule of law should embody moral ideals, thus providing reliable institutional support for virtue, Xi said.
