Authorities say at least four people have died after severe storms swept across parts of the U.S. South. Three people were killed in Louisiana, including an elderly couple found near their trailer home Saturday by firefighters.In Texas, one person died when a car flipped into a creek. Tornadoes have destroyed homes in Arkansas and Missouri and also caused damage in Oklahoma. The storms also unleashed downpours that caused widespread flash flooding. Twenty percent of proceeds from sales on Tuesday will be donated to a fund created in Officer Moye's memory.CPK officials say customers can mention the fundraiser, show a flyer on their phone or bring in a printed version to have a portion of their bill donated. On Aug. 12 around 5:35 p.m., CHP Officer Andre Moye, Jr. stopped the driver of a white GMC pickup for an unknown offense off the 215 Freeway in Riverside. At some point during the traffic stop, Moye decided to impound the man’s vehicle and called for a tow truck.While Moye was filling out paperwork, the man got a rifle from his truck and started shooting at the officer. Moye returned fire, and even though he had been shot, he was able to radio for help. Three other CHP officers soon arrived, followed by three deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and at least one officer from the Riverside Police Department, authorities said.Moye graduated from the CHP Academy on March 3, 2017, and was assigned to the Riverside County area.He is survived by his wife, Sara, and his father, mother, stepfather, brothers and sisters.For more information click on the link below. 1322

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Gov. Brad Little has signed two anti-transgender bills into law, making Idaho the first among states that introduced some 40 such bills this year to enact them. The Republican governor on Monday signed a bill that prohibits transgender people from changing the sex listed on their birth certificates, and another that bans transgender girls and women from competing in women’s sports. The birth certificate legislation ignores a 2018 federal court ruling that a past Idaho law barring transgender people from making the birth certificate changes was unconstitutional. BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton on Sunday, but later determined that no shots had been fired.“The tips seem to center around a loud noise that occurred," Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said.According to Alexander, one person who was originally reported to have suffered a gunshot wound was hurt when he hit his head on a door while fleeing the scene.“I hear a boom! And I thought that boom was like a balloon or someone falling or something, but as I look back … I see a bunch of kids yelling and crying and screaming, 'run, run, run, a shooter!'" eyewitness Stephanie Silva said.Detectives were able to recover both blood and hair on that door.Alexander said no weapon, casings or rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.“We have not identified any suspect, no gunshots or gunfire," Alexander said. “Right now we’re currently combing with assistance of ATF, they have dogs that can determine that, so that will be a focus of our investigation.”According to Alexander, the tips they received centered around a loud noise that occurred.“The important thing to remember is that something happened in that mall today to cause people to get concerned, a lot of people," he said.At this time detectives do not know what made the loud noise that caused the panic. California Governor Gavin Newsom did away Wednesday with a law that made it a crime to refuse to help a police officer.The law dates back nearly 150 years to California's Wild West days, when cowboys and outlaws roamed the state.The California Posse Comitatus Act of 1872 made it a misdemeanor for "an able-bodied person 18 years of age or older" to refuse a request for assistance from a police officer "in making an arrest, retaking into custody a person who has escaped from arrest or imprisonment, or preventing a breach of the peace or the commission of any criminal offense."It was widely used by authorities to legally form posses to hunt outlaws.State Senate Bill 192, which repeals the law, was first introduced on January 30, and it was sponsored by Senator Bob Hertzberg. Hertzberg originally tasked his interns with identifying outdated laws when they discovered it."Thank you to my interns for finding a law that belongs in the history books, not the law books," Senator Hertzberg said.Cory M. Salzillo, legislative director or the California State Sheriffs' Association, told CNN that the bill sends a message that discourages cooperation or giving assistance to law enforcement, and that it creates this notion that you shouldn't help law enforcement."We are unfamiliar with concerns with this statute other than it was enacted many years ago and carries a fine for a person who disobeys it," the CSSA said in a statement in June. "There are situations in which a peace officer might look to private persons for assistance in matters of emergency or risks to public safety and we are unconvinced that this statute should be repealed." 1661
