SAN DIEGO — Two of San Diego's biggest restaurant groups are sounding the alarm over state Coronavirus regulations.Owners of the Brigantine Family of Restuarants and the Cohn Restaurant Group say indoor capacity limits aren't sustainable. Currently, a restaurant can only seat 25 percent of its capacity indoors. “If we stay open and as we enter the fall and winter months, our restaurants cannot survive on 25 percent," said Leslie Cohn, of the Cohn restaurant group.The Cohn Group spent more than 0,000 creating social distancing in 16 of its restaurants - before the 25 percent capacity limit was instituted. Their employment is now down 40 percent to about 1,200 workers.“We should be concentrating on positive test percentages, hospital capacity, ICU and PPE availability and of course mask wearing, social distancing and employee screening,” Cohn said.Her frustrations, echoed by Mike Morton, who heads the Brigantine Family of Restaurants, where employment is off 20 percent to 1,000 workers. Morton said there are now waits every Friday, Saturday and Sunday - due to the capacity restraints.“Guests are going to get tired of that, and what else is that going to do? SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 52-year-old man was struck and gravely injured Sunday in a San Diego trailer park, and the motorist who hit him in a stolen Hummer was arrested.The incident began just after 11:10 a.m. when the San Diego police received a call from Chula Vista police who were involved in the pursuit of the stolen Hummer, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.The Hummer was snatched from a RoadOne impound yard in Chula Vista, SDPD Lt. Bryan Brecht told the media.The vehicle initially crashed at a gas station at 1400 Melrose Ave. in Chula Vista, but continued evading police south on Interstate 5, exiting into a trailer park at 1600 Palm Ave., Brown said.Officers tried to stop the driver but he sped away and hit the pedestrian, Brown said. It appeared the collision was intentional, Brown added.The 44-year-old driver was eventually taken into custody with help from a K-9 dog deployed to stop him, Brown said. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken into custody. SAN DIEGO — Some parents are keeping their children out of school Tuesday to protest the San Diego Unified School District’s sex education curriculum.A group of parents say the district’s Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP) is too graphic and not age-appropriate for their students, and they are urging district officials to eliminate the program.The parents have taken their concerns to the district’s School Board, but they said board members refuse to replace the curriculum.District officials said students can opt out of the course, but parents want the images they consider graphic gone.Ashley Bever, a substitute teacher who is organizing the one-day protest, said she was surprised to see all of the materials student had access to.“I thought a 6th grade teacher did not write this. Where it did come from? Why is it so explicit? SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A gunman who allegedly tried to mug a man he met online under the pretense of buying a gold chain outside a Chula Vista Costco, was behind bars Wednesday, facing a robbery charge.Albert Molina, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a scuffle in which the 23-year-old alleged victim snatched away his gun, fired a shot and held him at gunpoint while calling 911, according to police.Prior to the confrontation, Molina and the other man had communicated via OfferUp, an online service that facilitates private sales of used goods, Lt. Dan Peak said.Meeting the seller outside a Costco store in the 1100 block of Broadway, Molina agreed to buy a gold chain and provided a money order to supposedly pay for it. The two men tried to cash the check together, but found it was no good, according to police.They went to Molina's car and were sitting in it when the seller asked Molina to return his chain, which Molina was wearing, Peak said, adding "the suspect refused and pulled out a gun."The two men wrestled over the gun, which ended up in the seller's possession as he fell out of the vehicle. Believing Molina was going to run him over, he fired a round in Molina's direction, then held him at gunpoint while summoning police.Patrol officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and took both men into custody. After being interviewed by detectives, the seller was released, while Molina was booked into San Diego Central Jail. Neither was reported to be injured. 1477
