CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista reached a milestone today, approving the financial agreement for the Chula Vista Bayfront resort hotel and convention center project."It's taken us 30 years to get to this day, and it's certainly worth it," Chula Vista Mayor, Mary Casillas Salas said. Officials also authorized a revenue-sharing agreement between the two agencies. The entire project will cost .1 billion. Of that, RIDA Developement will invest 5 million. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new event space in the South Bay is paying homage to San Diego’s industrial history. Called “Salt Drift Pointe” the owners say they wanted to honor the industrial history driven by the old salt ponds that helped move the region from farming to industry. Over the years, the South Bay city has changed dramatically. Switching gears from an agricultural hub to an industrial one. Now, another shift is underway. One aimed at helping the city bring in more tourists. Lemons, oranges and lots of celery once dominated the landscape of Chula Vista. But that all changed in 1911 when the city was officially incorporated as part of California. RELATED: New event venue honors South Bay historyAs World War II shook the globe, Chula Vista began to shift from away from agriculture, moving toward an industrial revolution, according to the South Bay Historical Society. Now, Chula Vista is trying to increase tourism with the development of the Bayfront. In June, the Port of San Diego approved the .1 billion development plan that would add a 1,600-room hotel and 400,000 square foot convention center. 1138

Dan Peak said. "However, it is believed McCastle had gone to the location to speak with an unknown individual regarding a dispute over a dog."The shooter was described only as a man dressed in dark-colored clothes and armed with a handgun.Further details on the disagreement that apparently led to the slaying was not immediately available. 888

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista parents who once felt hopeless now feel empowered to care for their children with behavioral challenges. Through the Parent Intervention Program (PIP), parents learn new strategies while their children develop their social-emotional skills and new ways of expressing themselves. PIP is offered free to Chula Vista families through the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD)."We want to do what we can for our families and children when it comes to the whole child, not only cognitively but socially and emotionally," said Rita Palet, the Director of Early Childhood Education Programs for CVESD.Palet says this is now a priority for the district, which is why they're offering the PIP program to families for free."Behaviors take a while to develop, so they do take a while to diminish," said Palet.Through the program, parents meet others dealing with similar struggles. "When you come here it makes you feel safe, I feel safe coming here, even when we had a rough morning getting here, they're so welcoming," said Mina Fagen, who brings her son to the program.Fagen says her son started acting out after changes happened in the family; his sister went to kindergarten and they also had a new baby in the family."I felt overwhelmed, and still at times feel overwhelmed, but this program gives me a safe place to go to," said Fagen.Parents ultimately give back to the program by volunteering their time later as a "payback parent." This means staff members have completed the program with their own child and can support others going through the program.
