BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks rose for a third straight trading day Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing up 0.96 percent, or 30.01 points, at 3,159.51.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.54 percent, or 73.94 points, to finish at 13,807.3.Combined turnover declined to 453.1 billion yuan (68 billion U.S. dollars) from 459.17 billion yuan the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers 743 to 132 in Shanghai and 950 to 140 in Shenzhen.Agricultural shares led the gains with a 5.39 percent rise amid increased inflation expectations and surging farm product prices.Some economists believe China's consumer price index (CPI), the main gauge of inflation, jumped 4 percent year on year in October.Yasheng Industrial Group, Yongan Forestry Group and Fengle Seed Company all rose by the daily limit of 10 percent, ending at 6.47 yuan, 12.84 yuan and 20.77 yuan, respectively.Local stocks in Shanghai continued their surge after Walt Disney Co. inked a deal Friday for its long-awaited theme park in the city.Shanghai Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd rose 4.8 percent to 22.7 yuan while Shanghai Pudong Road and Bridge Construction Co. Ltd. gained 3.08 percent to finish at 20.43 yuan.Yu Wei, an analyst at Shiji Investment, said more "hot money" will flow into Chinese capital markets because of the U.S. Federal Reserve's second round of quantitative easing, QE2."As the government works on controlling inflation and the property market, the A-share market will be the most attractive place for 'hot money' inflows," he said.

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson Wednesday said that Iceland's government and people sincerely appreciate China's precious support to Iceland in dealing with financial crisis and treat China as a trustworthy friend and important cooperation partner, according to a report reaching here from Reykjavik."Iceland is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields including geothermal energy, earthquake monitoring, culture and tourism. Iceland will take the 40th anniversary of Iceland-China diplomatic relations as an opportunity to promote bilateral relations to a new stage," Grimsson said in a meeting with Liu Qi, a high-ranking Chinese party official.Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, arrived in Iceland on Monday after his three-day visit to Sweden.Liu said that with the close and frequent high level mutual visits in recent years, political trust between the two sides has been strengthened."The two sides have had fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation in financial, fishery, geothermal energy and hydropower fields and conducted active educational, scientific and technological and cultural exchanges. BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group on Sunday turned down the suggestion by Yahoo chief executive officer Carol Bartz that she be allowed to join the board of Alibaba, replying that Bartz should focus on improving Yahoo's own business first.Wang Shuai, chief marketing officer of Taobao.com under the group, said he has been "perplexed" by Bartz's decisions and attitudes since she became CEO of Yahoo in January 2009, claiming: "They demonstrate a lack of appreciation of the Internet, the mainland market and business partners."In response to Bartz's suggestion that she join the board of Alibaba, Wang said: "Perhaps it would not be a bad idea for her to concentrate her efforts on improving Yahoo's current situation."On Friday, Bartz touted Yahoo's 39 percent investment in Alibaba, a day after the Chinese Internet company said Yahoo had rejected its offer to sell the stake back to the group.The 62-year-old executive said the ideal time for Yahoo to exit from Alibaba will be after Taobao.com and Alipay.com, Alibaba's online shopping and payment subsidiaries, go public. She added that she will "probably" join the company's board later this year, when Yahoo gets a second seat on the board under its 2005 agreement with the company.Wang said on Sunday that Alibaba had no plans for Taobao.com to go public.Alibaba sold a 39 percent stake in the company to Yahoo in 2005 for billion and ownership of Yahoo China.The relationship between the two companies has been deteriorating recently, especially after Bartz replaced Yahoo's co-founder, Jerry Yang, to become chief executive of the company.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China Thursday expressed its hope that East Asian cooperation would deepen through the upcoming series of leaders' meetings in Hanoi, Vietnam."China attaches importance to and actively takes part in East Asian cooperation. In the series of meetings, China will review with other countries the cooperation that has been carried out and discuss how to further promote the integration process of East Asian cooperation," said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue.Hu made the remarks at a press conference Thursday afternoon in which officials from the ministries of Commerce, Education and Finance briefed the press on Premier Wen Jiabao's scheduled attendance at the meetings.The meetings, lasting from Oct. 28 to 30, will include: the 13th summit between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (10+1); the 13th summit between ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) (10+3); and the fifth East Asia Summit.Wen will also attend a meeting with the leaders of Japan and the ROK.Hu said China hopes the meetings would promote good-neighborliness and boost cooperation between China and the other Asian countries."During his visit, Premier Wen, together with participating leaders of other countries, will review the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation, 10+3 cooperation, and East Asian cooperation, as well as cooperation concerning East Asia Summit.
