But for those worried about the impending calvary of vehicles to the area, there are plenty of options to beat the rush.In addition to ridesharing options like Uber and Lyft, guests can choose from on-site or off-site parking. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It's not unusual to collect Christmas decorations year-round, but using them to cover every inch of a late model Dodge Caravan is pretty unique.He's known to many as the "Christmas Man of San Diego," whose van conversion continues to turn heads and spark smiles — no matter the season or social distance."He's a trans-dimensional emperor of over a google-plex of universes," said Larry Bogaert, as he stands with his pet parrot, Emerald Eagle, on his forearm. "I'm his Prime Minister and his daddy."In his mid-60s, Bogaert is a man with a big imagination who loves to share tales, turning his late-model Dodge Caravan into a storytelling canvas."I have Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinker Bell and the Boys going to Never Never Land," Bogaert shares.Almost every square inch of his vehicle features his own hand-drawn depictions of famed children's stories, mostly from English literature."And then I have Fezziwig's warehouse here," Bogaert says, pointing to various images on the car. "If you remember Scrooge did his apprenticeship at Fezziwig's.""For some things, I have a plan in mind, but other things as I buy things or acquire things you think, Oh, I can use that on the castle," Bogaert says, pointing to the roof of the vehicle which is covered by a towering display of church-like spires and angels. The hood is plastered with its own 3-D display of a miniature snow-covered town. And the sides of the van are covered in paint pen drawings all by his hand.The vehicle is a head turner and as we talk to Bogaert a couple of bicyclists stop to take pictures. Bogaert waves: "Thanks!" he says, before turning back to our camera, "99.9% of the time people give me the thumbs up. I've even had cops drive by and give me the thumbs up."Though, Bogaert admits there have been a few tickets over the years concerning visibility issues. But the former bus driver insists he's very good at using his side mirrors. Besides that, his inspiring creation has proven a good defense."One time the judge threw it out of court because she said her kids loved my car. She said case dismissed," he recalls.Another woman stops by on foot, "I like it. I think it's a positive message and we certainly need that now more than ever."Uncertain times for many, and Bogaert can relate to the feeling."With the coronavirus going on you should see how many people cheer my car because it's just something uplifting during these times," says Bogaert. "I like to be optimistic with the car. I like to be optimistic for myself if I can be. But I do get depressed."Underneath a kaleidoscope of ornaments inside the van, there is a snug space, where Bogaert sleeps, as — for the moment — this is his home."I bought a grocery store up in Crescent City. I always wanted to live in the redwoods," Bogaert said.He says that business venture years ago didn't go as planned, and the financial ramifications remain. But he doesn't dwell, as he focuses attention on another part of the van.After all, he and Emerald Eagle have a "google-plex of universes" to run. And they are, apparently, ever-expanding."I am adding more towers and a few more parts to it. I have some stuff inside that will go on in the next week or few days," said Bogaert. 3229

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many residents living in and around the polluted Tijuana River Valley expressed frustration this week with a plan to use taxpayer money to fund a campground instead of working on a fix to the raw sewage pouring over the border from Mexico into San Diego County. California Senate Bill 507 was signed by Governor Jerry Brown last month and allotted .5 million towards a campground and only 0,000 to study potential fixes to the sewage.“It seems like it’s the bastard child of San Diego and it just sucks.  It’s not fair,” said Ginger Sacco of the Citizens Against Sewage group.Sacco told 10News they were under the impression the bill, which was backed by Senator Ben Hueso and Assemblyman Todd Gloria, would be used to fight the sewage problem.  Instead, Sacco said they only learned last week most of the money would fund a campground backed by San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox.“I can’t imagine people in their right mind wanting to camp down here knowing all the sewage and toxins that have been coming through here,” said Sacco.A spokesman for Supervisor Cox emailed 10News a statement:“The .1 million comes from a 1988 State park bond act that was specifically designated by the voters for the purchase of land to expand the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park. At this time, after the purchase more than 1,800 acres, there are no additional lands necessary for inclusion to the Regional Park, therefore, we sought State legislation to slightly shift those park funds for the creation of the park and open space amenities.0,000 of that money was allocated to study potential fixes to the sewage spills on the U.S. side….County taxpayer money designated by the voters for a County park is not the proper funding source for an international water pollution prevention and treatment project costing hundreds of millions of dollars.”A spokeswoman for Senator Hueso said she issued news releases that mentioned the campground element.  Sacco said the residents never saw or heard about the campground until recently.An SB 507 promotional YouTube video featuring Assemblyman Gloria focused heavily on the sewage damage but doesn’t mention the campground.  His spokesman sent 10News a statement:“Assemblymember Gloria has been and remains committed to exploring solutions that will stop the pollution in the Tijuana River Valley. The purpose of the video was to highlight the State’s commitment to funding a feasibility study for the development of infrastructure on the U.S. side of the border.As mentioned in the video…this bill starts us on a path toward a long-term solution. It is worth noting that without SB 507, the State would not be funding a feasibility study. In fact, none of this money would be coming to the Tijuana River Valley.” 2807

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Kids and teens struggling with their mental health during the Coronavirus Pandemic and weeks of protests over racial injustice have a new way to cope.BlueShield CA has expanded its Blue Sky program, increasing funding to local mental health organizations and giving kids a platform to share tips on dealing with anxiety and depression."There's a greater need now than ever," says Blue Sky Program Manager Amanda Lasik. "There's a greater need to speak to youth voices and listen and learn from what's going on."According to the CDC, 7.1% of kids age 3-17 have been diagnosed with anxiety, and 3.2% of kids in the same age group have been diagnosed with depression. Experts believe those numbers will rise because of the pandemic and protests.As part of the expansion, Blue Sky partnered with DoSomething.org to launch the "New State of Mind" campaign. Kids send tips for coping to the website, which get published through emails, texts, and social media."The response has been overwhelming," says Lasik. "When we were originally planning this campaign, we thought it'd be great if we got about 17,000 tips. We've already received over 60,000."In addition to the "New State of Mind" effort, Blue Sky has provided 0,000 to 18 youth organizations in San Diego and Alameda county.
