We’ve been able to overcome that so that natural barriers of learning this virus, we’ve done already with its prior predecessors. The human barriers, we are overcoming that because a lot of the science community is coming together like we are all in this together. We gotta have a vaccine."Two vaccines are in the last phase of trials in Maryland right now. One is a first-of-its-kind RNA vaccine."It takes a fat deposit, this lipid nano molecule, and inside it has genetic material that when it gets into a human being, that genetic material gets into our cells and reproduces some of the proteins into our body that our immune system can identify and make a memory for," said Galiatsatos.The second is a more common vaccine, injecting a weakened virus to create an immune response.Galiatsatos said they still need to recruit 30,000 patients for these trials and then monitor them for 3-6 months before they can see if they are successful. They are looking for 4 things: if it’s effective with 1 to 2 shots; if it can help the targeted population; if it can cause antibodies to be made and if it can stop viral transmission to cause herd immunity."The best-case scenario is in a year from now we can talk about did it work, so we are in the late summer 2021. Then we can talk about making it publicly available," said Galiatsatos.So he said for the next year, acting based on what we know about COVID-19 is extremely important."To me, this is just a test of humanity. We’re better. We can all rise to the occasion and overcome this with the simple facts of knowing how this virus spreads and adapting ourselves to mitigate the spread of the virus," said Galiatsatos. We know to get infected you have to be in close proximity to someone or touch surfaces and bring them to your face."That means continuing to social distance, wear masks, and wash your hands. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Airbnb announced Thursday that it’s banning all parties and events at the listings on its website to comply with limits on gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.The San Francisco-based company says the party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.Additionally, Airbnb says the occupancy at its listings will be capped at 16 people. Though, the company says it’s considering a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues, like boutique hotels.“We also understand that 16 is not a magic number, and issues can occur with groups of any size,” wrote the company. “To be clear, we are not sanctioning smaller gatherings with this policy and all community members are expected to comply with local health restrictions on gatherings. We are capping guests at 16 in these large properties as one step amongst several, all designed to mitigate any efforts to misuse an Airbnb for a party.”Airbnb says guests will be informed about its party rules and told that they may be “legally pursued” by the company if they violate the policy.Unauthorized parties have actually always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and the company says 73% of its listings already ban them in their house rules.Over the last year or two, Airbnb has begun imposing stricter limits, starting with a global ban on “party houses,” or listings that create persistent neighborhood nuisance. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a new policy was introduced that required all users to adhere to local coronavirus mandates.“However, in many large jurisdictions, public health mandates on gatherings have changed – and in some places swung back and forth in response to the changing rates of COVID cases – as have regulations on bars, clubs and pubs,” wrote Airbnb. “Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection near the San Ysidro Port of Entry Monday night. The San Diego Police Department told 10News the suspect is a 23-year-old man in a white pickup truck who was trying to drive into the United States from Mexico.Police say he had been directed to a secondary screening area but failed to stop for an inspection and began firing at border agents. The man attempted to drive away, but authorities shot back. SDPD said at least seven CBP officers fired their weapons, killing the driver.According to a witness who was driving to the border from National City, police could be heard telling someone to pull over. The witness added that a police helicopter could also be seen in the area. San Diego Police say they're helping with the shooting investigation, which originally involved Border Patrol and CBP. Marco Sotomayor, Secretary of Public Security in Tijuana, tweeted that CBP closed all lanes of the port during the incident, but quickly reopened them. 1075

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras — Hundreds of Hondurans devastated by recent hurricanes have been stopped as they tried to walk towards the United States in the latest attempt at a migrant caravan.Roughly 600 men, women and children tried to walk from the northern city of San Pedro Sula toward the border with Guatemala. But on Thursday they were stopped by Honduran security personnel, who demanded they show papers and coronavirus tests.Hundreds of thousands of Hondurans remain homeless after the November hurricanes. There are concerns about safety at some of the shelters and the potential of rapid coronavirus spread.Last week, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández asked for U.S. help, warning that food shortages as a result of crop loss caused by Hurricanes Eta and Iota could spur more migration to the U.S.Aid agencies report nearly 7 million people between southern Mexico and Colombia are in need of assistance following the catastrophic storms, according to NPR.Hurricanes Eta and Iota both came ashore as dangerous Category 4 storms on November 3 and November 17 respectively, making landfall in roughly the same region along the border between Nicaragua and Honduras."Hurricane Eta affected almost all of Central America, including Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Nicaragua," Steve McAndrew, deputy regional director, for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies told NPR. "And then the second hurricane Iota also had a direct hit on the San Andreas Islands, which are part of Colombia. There's heavy damage and the region's been heavily affected."The region continues to dig out from mudslides. SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 30-year-old Palmdale man was sentenced today to 2 1/2 years in jail for smearing his semen on a co-worker's computer keyboard and mouse, in her honey jar and in half-consumed bottles of water and lotion on her desk in the La Palma office they shared.Stevens Millancastro, who was convicted Sept. 21, must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Millancastro was convicted of two counts of battery and three counts of assault by Orange County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Roberts, who decided the case without a jury.Roberts was going to sentence the defendant to two years in jail plus five years of probation, but Millancastro rejected probation, so the judge tacked on the extra six months. Millancastro was given credit for serving 74 days behind bars.``We also know from his own testimony, and the testimony from the doctor, that he placed his semen on her items more times than he was actually charged,'' Roberts said.``This is much more serious and invasive than a normal punch or hit or slap,'' Roberts said, explaining why she was doling out the maximum punishment. ``This was a sexually motivated act... It is emotionally devastating to the victim.''Roberts pointed out that the defendant ``harassed her for four years, staring at her, making her feel uncomfortable at work to the point she altered her clothing.''At some point the woman finally complained informally three times and then ultimately made a formal complaint, Roberts said. ``When she finally made the formal complaint the defendant was forced to undergo sexual harassment training,'' Roberts said. ``He chose to ejaculate into her items and that was after sexual harassment training.''The judge said his ``sexual revenge'' was a ``sophisticated scheme to get her to ingest his semen after she reported him.'' Michael Morrison of the Orange County Public Defender's Office disputed that his client committed his crimes out of sexual gratification, saying it was only for revenge.Deputy District Attorney Laila Nikaien argued that the defendant was sexually aroused by the victim eating and drinking his semen. ``He is a deviant... It's a form of having power over the victim, of humiliating them.That's what a sex offender does. That's what the defendant did... He did it once and got his jollies off and wanted to keep doing it.'' Roberts also noted when she convicted the defendant last month that he testified that after the first time he fouled the victim's belongings, ``his anger was not satisfied,'' and said he did not need counseling. ``That makes someone very dangerous to the community,'' she said, adding that the victim ``hesitated to speak up for herself to complain formally because she knew the defendant and her boss were close friends and she thought there would be repercussions on her.''The judge noted there were eight separate acts in late 2016 and early 2017 and said she took into consideration the sexual harassment, though it was not criminal.``His anger grew out of control,'' she said. ``The evidence shows he can't control his anger. That is a red flag to the court that he cannot control himself.''Millancastro and the woman, whose name was not publicly revealed, had worked together since 2014, according to Nikaien, who said the defendant ``actually trained the victim.''The woman testified that Millancastro started asking her out via an instant messaging system at work.``He mentioned something about picking me up. I had no clue what he was talking about,'' she testified. ``He was basically asking me out to the movies. I said, no, I have a boyfriend.''``Did he keep asking?'' Nikaien asked. ``Yes,'' the victim testified. ``He would stare at me all day ... in an uncomfortable way, a crazy way.''Nikaien said the defendant ``would check her out from head to toe. He would stare at her when she walked to a printer... when she walked to a filing cabinet near her desk... It got so bad... she would wear a sweater around her waist... to prevent him from looking at her.''Ultimately, she ``made an informal complaint to her boss,'' the prosecutor said. ``He was told to stop, but he kept staring at her. To the point, about a month later... the victim filed a formal complaint with HR for the defendant incessantly staring at her.''A short time later in November 2016, she noticed a half-consumed bottle of water she had left on her desk looked ``cloudy'' and threw it away, Nikaien said.``A week after that, she left another half drunken bottle of water open on her desk and when she comes back to work again the next day, the water is cloudy and she's suspicious so she throws it away,'' Nikaien said. ``A week later she finds another bottle of half-drunken water on her desk and this time she opens it up.''The woman's ``boss then had a team set up a surveillance camera next to the victim's desk,'' and it captured the defendant after hours on Jan. 12, 2017, as he ``grabbed some tissues and walked over to the bathroom... '' the prosecutor said. ``He masturbates to arousal, he ejaculates... then what we see next on surveillance is he's holding up the crumpled tissue walking right to the victim's desk.'' 5166
