BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's participation in the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima on Nov.17-26 and his state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece are rich in content and fruitful in result, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Thursday. Hu proposed a number of measures to solve the current crisis, including strengthening coordination of macro-economic policies, curbing the spread of financial crisis through all necessary fiscal and monetary means to avoid a possible global economic downturn. He proposed to adhere to the right orientation in establishing a new international financial order that is fair, just, inclusive, and orderly. Necessary reforms should be carried out in international financial system by following the principles of comprehensiveness, balance, step by step and effectiveness to create the system environment for the sound development of the world economy. He also proposed to change the existing mode of unsustainable economic growth in an effort to solve the deep-seated problems in economic growth of various countries. Hu also called for support to the developing countries struck by the financial crisis to help keep the momentum of their economic development. BOOSTING STABLE DEVELOPMENT OF PRAGMATIC COOPERATION AMONG APEC MEMBERS At the meeting, Hu put forward five-point proposals on dealing with major global issues of common concern. He urged APEC member economies to build consensus and promote sound development of the multilateral trading regime. He also urged them to take up responsibilities and jointly tackle climate change. In addition, APEC member economies should enhance exchanges and cooperation and join forces to combat natural disasters, he said. Efforts should be made to regulate guidance and strengthen corporate social responsibility, he added. The Chinese president also stressed the importance for APEC members to take coordinated actions and ensure world food and energy security. On APEC's future development, Hu said APEC should maintain its nature of a forum for economic cooperation and its approach of conducting cooperation on a non-binding basis. He said that the APEC members should continue to promote balanced progress in economic and technical cooperation and trade and investment liberalization. "In particular, we should increase input in economic and technical cooperation to enhance capacity-building in developing members and narrow the development gap." Hu also presented proposals on tackling climate change, combating natural disasters and boosting the exploration of human resources. He expressed China's willingness to help finance the network for Asia-Pacific forest restoration and sustained management, and host the APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in 2010. Bush about bilateral relations and major international issues of common concern. The two leaders exchanged congratulations on achievements that have been made in the development of bilateral relations since the forging of diplomatic ties between China and the U.S. 30 years ago. They expressed the hope that a series of events to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations would be successful. President Hu agreed with Bush's positive remarks on China-U.S. relations and hailed his efforts to develop a constructive and cooperative Sino-U.S. relationship. In the new historical period of time, China and the United States, through their joint efforts, will surely be able to stay firm in the general direction of the China-U.S. constructive and cooperative relationship and promote sound, stable, all-round and in-depth development of bilateral ties, Hu noted. Bush, for his part, said China and the United States have engaged in good cooperation over the past 30 years which deserves congratulation. The U.S. president said he was pleased that he has conducted satisfactory cooperation with President Hu during his presidency. On the Middle East situation, Hu said China is seriously concerned about escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and worsening of the volatile situation in the Middle East and is deeply worried about the humanitarian crisis taking place in the Gaza Strip. China calls on all the parties concerned to stop military operation and armed conflicts, promote the relaxation of tension in the region and create conditions for a solution to the conflict by political means, Hu said.

ALGIERS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Algeria voiced commitment here Wednesday to step up bilateral strategic and cooperative relations and called for intensified cooperation in fields such as infrastructure, energy and resource exploration. In his meeting with Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo called Algeria as "an important cooperation partner," noting that China highly values its strategic and cooperative relations with Algeria. China and Algeria are both developing countries and share common aspiration to develop their economies to improve the welfare of their peoples, said Wu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC). He noted that China will join hands with the Algerian side to cement the bilateral cooperation in long-term and strategic perspectives. He proposed the two nations should work closer in fields such as infrastructure construction, energy, resource exploration and establish an economic and trade cooperation zone. BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 11th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, China's top legislature, concluded its fifth session on Tuesday after passing new laws and international treaties. It adopted an amendment to the fire control law and passed a law designed to protect state-owned assets from being illegally seized. The session also ratified a bilateral treaty on extradition with Portugal. The 21-article treaty was signed by Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui and Portuguese Foreign Minister Louis Amado in Beijing on Jan. 31, 2007. The top legislature session also ratified an amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment, and the Protocol thereto on Matters Specific to Aircraft Equipment. NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo said the legislature would continue working on an amendment to the country's law on food safety, which is being revised following a nationwide toxic milk scandal. The session publicized a draft of amended law on earthquake prevention and disaster reduction to receive suggestions from all circles. Wu Bangguo said at the session that to promote the judicial fairness and public supervision is a long-term task and called for more efforts in this regard. He urged lawmakers to live up to their responsibilities to provide more useful and effective advices or suggestions to the top legislature, including those on macro-control of the economy.
