SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people are in custody following a chase through North Park and University Heights Monday evening. The chase started around 5:30 p.m. at an unknown location after police tried to make contact with the suspects following a possible hit-and-run in a stolen vehicle. Mid-chase, officers called off the pursuit after it was determined the suspect was traveling too fast. At one point during the chase, two of the suspects could be seen jumping out of the vehicle near Florida Street and Polk Avenue. A third suspect was detained a short time later. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department says pedestrian fatalities are going up in California - so they're cracking down on drivers, pedestrians and those violating laws that pertain to motorized scooters. All of this, just as new reports show a flood of scooter-related injuries backing up local emergency rooms. Wednesday night SDPD sent out targeted patrols to downtown and Lincoln Park. Two spots where pedestrian and bike collisions have increased in the last three years. In many cases, traffic violations led to those crashes. 10News watched as officers ticketed more than 50 people, and gave out more than 20 warnings. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thousands of people donned in green flooded the Gaslamp Quarter Saturday night for the 25th annual San Diego ShamROCK block party.The event featured three stages of entertainment, food, jig-offs, and plenty of green beer. "My all-time favorite. Because they close down the streets, it's like everybody is dressed up, it's such a good time, everyone is in such a great mood, on the same level of having a good time, it’s fun!” said Kelsey Silver, a San Diego resident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The officer who saved two twin toddlers and their dad after their father drove off Sunset Cliffs was recognized for his heroic efforts this week.San Diego Police K9 officer Jonathan Wiese was awarded the Medal of Valor and Heroic Act award from the California Surf Lifesaving Association and United States Lifesaving Association for his efforts to save the three people on June 13.SDPD received a call about a suicidal man with twin two-year-old girls driving with the intention of careening off the Coronado Bridge. You're not going to stand there on the cliff and watch it happen," he told ABC 10News in June. "And by then four or five other cops had shown up so I pretty much threw the end of the leash to them and then I said hang on and I just jumped off."The officer also performed rescue breathing on one of the girls who was limp after being pulled from the wreck.Wiese is the same officer who helped apprehend the suspected Poway synagogue shooter in April 2019. He was on his way to meet his family for lunch on Apr. 27 when he heard a call of shots fired and immediately responded to the area."I didn't do the job to be liked every day, I didn't do it to become rich, I did it because I want to be out there making a difference and helping people, as cliche as that might sound, but I was just glad I could be there," Wiese said referring to protecting the toddlers. 2058
