CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A Black Lives Matter group in Oklahoma group is calling a symbol at a museum outside of Tulsa offensive and asking for it to be removed. The cornerstone of the Claremore Museum of History contains a swastika, but some historians argue that the symbol was included before the rise of Nazi Germany.“It was the cornerstone in Clem Van Rogers livery stable," Will Rogers Memorial Museum Public Relations Director Pat Reeder said. “They sold it for 0 and in 1936 they started this building and Will had already died and they decided to name it for him."It's a piece of history that's been around for more than 100 years and sits on the south side of the building at the Claremore Museum of History. "I think it’s offensive to me that someone would think that a cornerstone would be so hate-filled you’d have to remove it," Reeder said. The symbol on top of the cornerstone is under fire. “For Native Americans, it was very much life, earth and sun that’s what it meant to them," Reeder said.Reeder remembers it as a patch on soldiers uniforms of the 45th division in World War I, who were mostly from Oklahoma. “I couldn’t find anything that called it a name," she said. "I think it was given the name when Hitler decided he needed a symbol.” Reverend Mareo Johnson, a Black Lives Matter activist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, wants the cornerstone removed. “When you see it now it’s a public representation of hate and regardless of what it meant then it’s how people see it now," he said. Reverend Johnson says the meaning has changed overtime and wants any sign of hate removed. “The swastika sign is the main point and everything else is fine it’s that symbol that is connected to hate," he said. He wants the country to move forward. “I don’t believe that it will be too hard of a process because it’s very understandable," Rev. Johnson sad. Reeder argues that the monument has largely flown under the radar in the decades since it's been installed.Rev. Claire's has filed for bankruptcy. The hub for ear piercings at malls across America is the latest retailer to succumb to its massive pile of debt.Claire's, which says it has pierced more than 100 million ears around the world, reached a restructuring agreement with its creditors. In a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on Monday, Claire's said it will reduce its by debt .9 billion. It held .1 billion in debt at the end of 2017.The company will continue to operate its approximately 1,600 Claire's and Icing brand stores in the United States during the bankruptcy process and expects to complete it by September. International stores are not part of the restructuring agreement."This transaction substantially reduces the debt on our balance sheet," Claire's CEO Ron Marshall said in a statement. "We will complete this process as a healthier, more profitable company." Marshall came from now-defunct bookstore chain Borders. Claire's struggles stem from a deal it struck more than a decade ago that left it burdened with debt.In 2007, Apollo Management, a private equity firm, bought Claire's for .1 billion and took the company private in what's known as a leveraged buyout.Claire's could never escape its debt load. CORONADO (KGTV) -- A man was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman on a boat anchored in San Diego Bay, Harbor Police announced.Pablo Alvarez, 38, was booked on five felony counts related to sexual assault by force, according to jail records.The alleged assault happened in the waters off Coronado's Tidelands Park in what's known as the A-4 anchorage, a place where several dozen boats are anchored just north of the Coronado Bridge.There is no dock, so boaters must use a dinghy or a kayak to access the larger vessels in the anchorage.Early Wednesday morning, the victim fled a sailboat in the anchorage using a kayak, but the kayak capsized in the darkness, forcing the woman to swim the rest of the way to shore, said Harbor Police Lt. Victor Banuelos.The woman managed to call the police just before 4:45 a.m.Alvarez and the woman were the only people on board the sailboat at the time, according to Banuelos. The nature of their relationship is under investigation.Alvarez is scheduled to appear in court Friday.Harbor Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at 619-686-8132. 1141
