If you’ve been saving old items in hopes they’ll one day be worth something one day, there are things you need to know when collecting.Fifty-Two 80’s: A Totally Awesome Shop in Denver knows a lot about collectibles. From action figures, plush toys and sitcom memorabilia, the store transports customers back into another decade.A majority of kids who grew up in the 80s had most of these toys, and some are worth a small fortune today.“Star Wars is always going to be a good one; it's always going to hold its value," says store owner Tony Vecchio. Other things that may be of value include some TV dolls, Stretch Armstrong figures, comic books and Clash of the Titans action figures. Depending on the year, Beanie Babies can go up and down in value. "Any time you can find boxes of original items, that's going to increase the value,” Vecchio says.Collector Rick Goldschmidt has been collecting things for more than 20 years. “The problem with a lot of people, they collect things that are mass produced by the thousands,” Goldschmidt says. “They think that's going to be worth something 10 to 15 years later.”His top tip on what to keep and what to throw out: make sure your item you are collecting is rare or one-of-a-kind, with preferably less than 1,000 made. Both Goldschmidt and Vecchio say if you want to sell a collector item, start with eBay. Find out how much the item sold for and set your price from there. There are some collectibles that are worth a couple hundred bucks. But, majority of the time, the memory of the items is worth more than the actual item itself. 1590

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A detective with 15 years experience as a cop was identified as the Jersey City, New Jersey police officer killed in a shootout that left six people dead on Tuesday, officials said.Joseph Seals was fatally shot on Garfield Avenue, officials said. He worked with the city's Cease Fire Unit. The officer was the leading cop in removing guns from city streets, Jersey City Police Chief Michael Kelly said."Dozens and dozens of handguns, he is responsible for removing from the street," Kelly said.Seals was promoted to detective in the last few years, Kelly said. Before that, he worked in the South District, which has a high volume of crimes."Joe was somebody who was involved in city," Mayor Steven Fulop said. "Officers in other precincts knew who he was because he was a good cop."The officer was killed toward the start of an hours-long shootout.Around 12:30 p.m., officers rushed to reports of shots fired, officials said. Police were immediately engaged by high power rifle fire.Seals was shot at a second scene at about that same time.He was married and had five children. Seals is the 35th police officer from Jersey City to die in the line of duty.Gov. Phil Murphy praised Seals for his service."He gave his life in the line of duty and in the name of service to his community," he said. "Our sadness comes with an immense debt of gratitude for his service and sacrifice."Two other officers were injured. They've since been released from the hospital. One of those officers was identified as Ray Sanchez.Jersey City Councilman Jermaine Robinson expressed his condolences for the police department."As regular citizens, we get to run away from the crime," he said. "But as police officers, they run toward the crime and they put their lives on the line every single day."This article was written by Aliza Chasan for 1853

Lawyers for the Department of Justice plan to tell a federal judge in Maryland Friday afternoon that the Trump administration will continue to explore options of adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, according to an administration official familiar with the plans. The official stressed that as of now the census will be printed without the citizenship question.Earlier Friday, President Donald Trump said he is considering his options which include a potential executive order, or an addendum to the questionnaire that would allow the question to be added at a later date. Such a move could require the administration to provide a new justification for the addition of the question, following a Supreme Court ruling requiring a new rationale. The move by the Justice Department would mean that the administration will face daunting legal challenges and a tenuous timeline. Judge George Hazel in Maryland had told the Justice Department that if the administration refused to definitively say it will not add a citizenship question to the census, he would establish a schedule to hear new evidence over the next 45 days. A parallel proceeding will continue in New York as well.Growing frustrated at his administration's handling of 1253
