RAINBOW, Calif. (KGTV) - A new overpass may be destined for the I-15, not for people but mountain lions.A just-released study led by The Nature Conservancy and backed by the National Park Service recommended a stretch of the I-15 just south of Temecula - either an overpass or underpass like crossings in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming - allowing mountain lions and other wildlife to safely get across.On the west side of the highway is preserve space owned by San Diego State University.  On the other side are 73 acres just purchased by The Nature Conservancy.  Experts says the local mountain lions have been cut off by the freeways and are practicing inbreeding."That makes them more susceptible to disease, and that could be catastrophic for the mountain lion population," said Cara Lacey, an associate program director at The Nature Conservancy.Lacey points out crossings in other states have also cut down on vehicle collisions with wildlife.  She says at least three mountain lions were struck by vehicles in that stretch of I-15 in 2017.  Caltrans is studying a crossing on Highway 101, which would cost between and million. 1165

"There is nothing on our end right now that points to these two people actually knowing each other."Douglas Watts, 73, was walking his dogs September 30 when a gunman shot him in the head, police said. It was about 10 a.m.Ladi Ogunnunbi was headed to church shortly before Watts was killed and saw the suspect walking away from him. Ogunnubi had forgotten something and went back to his apartment, he said."I ran back in to go get that, and when I come back out, within a minute or two, I started to see cops and a bit of chaos," he said. RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Ramona family is grieving the loss of a 14-year-old boy, killed Tuesday night while riding a skateboard on a residential street."He was really happy and so charismatic. He loved his family, loved to skateboard," said Amber Krapf, Logan Krapf's mother.Logan was on his skateboard, just before 7:30 p.m that night in a neighborhood in the San Diego Country Estates. He was on Barona Mesa Road near a streetlight with two friends, one on a skateboard, another on a bike.His friends say they were wearing helmets in the streets, and going from right to left in the road, headed toward a golf course, when the headlights on a pickup appeared around a curve.Two of the boys managed to get to the roadside, but Logan did not, as the truck struck him. His mother Amber got the call and raced to the scene."Everyone around me was crying. I was number and just in shock that this could happen," said Amber.By the time she arrived, her son had passed."I kissed him. Told him that I loved him. Told him goodbye, that it was okay," said a tearful Amber.CHP investigators say the driver, a 20-year-old man, did stop and performed CPR. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor, but Amber believes speed was. The speed limit is 25."An officer said he admitted on scene that he was going at least 45 ... My son’s friends say ... it was closer to 55," said Amber.Days later, flowers and candles stand where a young life was cut short, weeks before his birthday and first-ever football practice at Ramona High."He loved football. He was supposed to be the starting nose guard for football season, and so excited to play his first season," said Amber.Instead, a grieving family must now plan a funeral."It hurts to take every breath. RAMONA (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash today on the Barona Indian Reservation.A motorcycle was hit and ended up underneath a Ford sedan around 1:30 p.m. on Wildcat Canyon Road more than a mile south of Little Klondike Road, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. The area is about halfway between Barona Resort and Casino and the community of Ramona.Passersby stopped and were able to pull the motorcyclist out from underneath the car, but the biker succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash, the CHP said.The northbound lane of the road was shut down.Identifying information on the victim was not immediately available. 659
