SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - At least two former students of a coding bootcamp in downtown San Diego received refunds after a Team 10 story earlier this summer.Sean Calma and Lane, who declined to give his last name, were enrolled at Origin Code Academy. They both said they were promised one-on-one instruction, which they did not receive. Neither had previous coding experience, so they both asked many questions before enrolling."One time, [the instructor] didn't even know what he was looking at on my computer screen. A second time, he was like, I don’t know what that is. Third time, he asked to go ask another instructor," Lane told Team 10 back in June.CEO Jeff Winkler said coding is difficult, but would be willing to talk to the students about getting their money back. During a previous Team 10 interview, he pointed to many satisfied students and dozens of graduates, including one who recently got a job at Facebook.Winkler did not respond to Team 10's request for comment regarding the refunds.Coding bootcamps are regulated by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). Origin Code Academy was previously operating without approval. The academy appealed its citation, its fine was reduced, and as of August, it is allowed to operate. As part of its approval, it had to pay back students who asked for refunds.Both Calma and Lane could not talk about their refunds the received after Team 10's story because both had to sign a non-disclosure agreement before getting their money back.A spokesperson for the BPPE told Team 10: "The Bureau encourages Origin Code Academy students who have not yet received a requested refund to contact the Bureau so we can investigate their claims. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Before the sun rose Friday, cars already packed parking lots at San Diego beaches to kick off Labor Day weekend and what's expected to the some of the hottest days of summer.However, San Diego County leaders said no matter where you are this weekend, they want to emphasize people must still follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.ABC 10News was at La Jolla Shores on Friday morning as beachgoers wearing masks secured spots far enough to stay socially distanced.Beachgoer and Santee resident Kris Moberly, “We know we can find a spot if we come early."It's the new norm, but also a way to ensure San Diego stays off the state's watchlist after just getting off of it two weeks ago.Moberly said she hopes everyone will follow the rules this weekend, telling ABC 10News, "I'm sure there's people who push the limits but you're responsible for your own health and I think most people are considerate of others."San Diego Lifeguards said they won't be regulating when it comes to social distancing or masks."We're going to be focused on keeping people safe in the water, but social distancing is everyone's responsibility,” a lifeguard told ABC 10News.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the status of our county depends on people's actions this weekend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- At least four people were stabbed in a brawl that erupted following a car show in Kearny Mesa early Thursday morning.San Diego police said the incident happened at a Chevron gas station in the 7700 block of Copley Park Place just after 12 a.m.According to police, about 50 people appeared at the gas station following a car show at a nearby park. During the gathering, a fight broke out, and a male pulled out a handgun and fired several gunshots.At the same time, another male used a knife to slash the tires of several vehicles and then tried to stab another male.When officers arrived at the gas station, those involved in the reported incident fled the area. Police discovered shell casings and blood at the scene.A short time later, police learned two people with stab wounds arrived at a Kaiser Permanente facility on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. Both victims were then transferred to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment.Police learned two more people with stab wounds showed up at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.According to police, the victims were between age 16-21. The victims described the suspect as a Hispanic male.No arrests have been made. 1190
