BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A revised version of China's Regulation on Work-Related Injury Insurance will take effect Saturday, raising compensation standards while expanding the coverage to more organizations.The previous regulation stipulated that the compensation to families of workers who die on the posts is no more than five times the average annual salary in the previous year. The sum varies depending on the regions where the workers are working.Under the current system, the national average compensation is about 100,000 yuan, but the lowest regional average compensation is about 40,000 yuan.The new regulation raises the compensation to 20 times the national annual disposable income for urbanites per capita in the previous year, which means about 340,000 yuan according to 2009 statistics.In addition, the revised regulation covers the country's public institutions, social groups, non-profit grass-root organizations, foundations, law firms and accounting firms.Previously, the rules only include enterprises and small businesses and their employees in the system.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shanghai municipal government is making moves to enhance its mergers and acquisitions (M&As) market, a move in tune with the cosmopolitan city's ambition to make itself a global financial hub by 2020.The city will initially actively propel the construction of its financial market and M&A-related auxiliary services, especially the agents who facilitate deals, to aid these activities, said Shanghai Vice-Mayor Tu Guangshao on Thursday.He said the local government is also considering setting up a China Mergers and Acquisitions Association in Shanghai.Meanwhile, plans to open an M&A museum are also in the pipeline to help create an M&A culture in the city."We've made concrete efforts to encourage benign conditions to allow these plans to materialize," Tu said.The M&A market, in turn, will help catalyze improvements in the city's financial market functions, structures, and systems, as well as boosting badly needed adjustments to its economic structure. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's coal mine safety watchdog said Wednesday that the nation would require all coal mines to be equipped with emergency shelter systems to protect miners before June 2013.Also, the country's State Administration of Coal Mine Safety (SACMS) has required all mines to complete installation of four systems, including coal mine monitoring, pressure fan facilities, water supplies, and communications before the end of this year.Further, centrally-administered coal mine companies and major state-owned coal mines must also install positioning systems for workers underground, said Zhao Tiechui, SACMS chief.Meanwhile, centrally-administered coal mines and major state-owned coal mines must set an example by completing the construction of emergency shelter facilities before June 2012, Zhao said.More than 2,000 miners were killed in coal mines last year in China. Though the fatalities were significantly reduced from the peak of nearly 7,000 deaths in 2002, the situation still remains grim.Just last month, a gas leak at a coal mine in central China's Henan Province left more than 30 people dead.
