NEW YORK (AP) — A new report underscores that kids can bring the new coronavirus home from day care and infect relatives. The study released Friday comes from researchers in Utah and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It focused on three outbreaks in Salt Lake City child care facilities between April and July. The study concluded 12 children caught the coronavirus at the facilities. They then spread it to at least 12 of the 46 parents or siblings that they came in contact at home. Scientists already know children can spread the virus. One infectious diseases researcher says the study “definitively indicates — in a way that previous studies have struggled to do — the potential for transmission to family members,” said William Hanage, a Harvard University infectious diseases researcher.The findings don’t mean that schools and child-care programs need to close, but it does confirm that the virus can spread within those places and then be brought home by kids. NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Griffin is stepping down after 12 years as MSNBC president, the first major post-election change in the news industry.NBC Universal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde says Rashida Jones will replace Griffin.Jones, who is currently the head of breaking news at NBC and recently directed the network's coverage of the 2020 election, has been with NBC News for the past seven years.She is the first Black executive to lead a cable news network, and Conde has said increasing diversity is one of his top goals."Rashida is the right person to lead MSNBC forward into a new era," said Conde in a press release. Newly released police body cam shows Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking in East Tennessee two months before the Antioch attack.It's video from a motel in Alcoa, where Reinking was staying in February while working on a construction project. Full Coverage: Antioch Waffle House ShootingOne clip showed one of his several run-ins with the law. One of those run-ins happened just two months ago.Reinking told the officer someone kept knocking on his window and yelling. However, it was a woman who called police on him for allegedly threatening her in a violent manner. "They'll be talking loud at night, knock on the windows and walk off, and I don't know who it is,” Reinking said in the clip. Samantha Veals said she was trying to put her kids to sleep when she heard Reinking yelling.She told him to be quiet, at which point he allegedly charged inside her motel room, balled up his fist and laughed at her when she screamed.  Reinking admitted to police that he yelled at Veals but denied charging at her. He checked out of the motel that night and Veals opted to not press charges. Reinking?was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of criminal homicide, four counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful gun possession in the commission of a violent felony.  The Waffle House reopened Wednesday and for the next month, is donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the victims of the attack.  More:  1514

NEW YORK CITY — The co-owner of a Staten Island bar that continues to flout local coronavirus restrictions was arrested again early Sunday morning after allegedly hitting a sheriff's deputy with his vehicle, officials said.After a night of surveillance at Mac's Public House, two uniformed deputy sheriffs approached Daniel Presti, 34, just after midnight to place him under arrest, but he ran from the officers, got into his vehicle and began to drive away, according to the sheriff's office.Presti allegedly drove into one of the uniformed deputies, officials said. The deputy was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and Presti reportedly continued to drive down South Railroad Avenue with the injured deputy still clinging to the hood of the car.,Presti drove about 100 yards before stopping his vehicle, officials said. He was arrested and taken to a police precinct, where he is expected to be charged.The deputy sheriff who was struck by the vehicle was taken to Staten Island University Hospital for treatment, officials said.The car crash was the latest incident surrounding the controversial Staten Island bar — which has garnered national attention and was even spoofed on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.Presti was also taken into custody by deputy sheriffs on Tuesday after an investigation revealed the bar was offering indoor dining and defying several other coronavirus restrictions despite rising infection rates in the area. Staten Island has the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in New York.Bars and restaurants in state-designated "orange" microcluster zones are only allowed to offer takeout and outdoor dining, with a four-person maximum per table.Despite Presti's initial arrest and the loss of the the bar's liquor license, Mac's Public House opened its doors to indoor diners again this weekend, according to the sheriff's office.On Saturday night, deputy sheriffs reported witnessing dozens of people entering and exiting a neighboring commercial space to access the back door of the bar.According to the sheriff's office, food and alcohol were being served to unmasked and standing patrons in exchange for "monetary donations."Following Presti's arrest Saturday night, Mac's Public House said on Facebook that the restaurant would remain open."We will not back down! You have not scared us!! The world is watching and it's time for everyone to wake up!" a statement on the bar's Facebook page said.Mayor Bill de Blasio's press secretary, Bill Neidhardt, commented on Presti's second arrest on Twitter Sunday afternoon."Presti has been telling the world who he really is for days now, but last night's incident made it crystal clear. Whether it's flouting public health laws or ramming a car into a deputy, this guy clearly has no regard for the lives of others.
