My autistic nephew turned 21 this year and got his first paid job. I'm wildly proud of him for making this happen. He was able to buy Christmas gifts for everyone this year and was soooo excited about it. His card and gift made me smile and melts my heart. 272

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — There is a group of retired ladies living in a Pinellas County RV park who have formed their own assembly line when it comes to making masks. They call themselves the Crafty Ladies of Sherwood Forrest RV Resort. They are making hundreds of masks a week, and because the bulk of them go to our veterans, patriotism is a big deal. The red, white and blue runs deep not just in their fabric but their spirit.“I feel helpless with what’s going on with the Covid and this is my tiny little way of contributing,” said Micheal Barsi.Barsi is one of more than a dozen residents who are part of the group. Most of them have two main things in common, they are skilled with a sewing machine and are part of a military family. For the past six years, the Crafty Ladies have been making quilts for the Service Source organization, Veterans Mall. However, when the pandemic hit, they shifted their needle and thread to make masks for veterans.“They had to sacrifice and people who had to sacrifice I want to help as much as I can,” said Nancy Barandon. The Crafty Ladies said the best part is the camaraderie, working together on a project that could save lives.“It does make us feel good to see people using them,” said Jeannie Powell. A woman in Maricopa, Arizona, has been arrested, accused of physical abuse against her seven adoptive children. Maricopa police say that on March 13, an adult woman came to their department and said her mother, 48-year-old Machelle Hackney, had been abusing her siblings.According to a police report, she said the siblings were left in locked closets for days at a time, pepper sprayed and left with no food or water for days on end by their adoptive mother.Police went to the home and allegedly found a child in a closet wearing a pull-up diaper and no other clothing. The closet had a lock on it, but it was not locked at the time. Police say they children appeared pale, underweight and had bags under their eyes. One of the children told police they were pepper sprayed numerous times as punishment by his mother, among other physical abuse. "I either get beat with a hanger or belt, or a brush, or get pepper sprayed from head to toe.” The others described similar abuse, including abuse to their private parts and being forced to take ice baths. Police also say the children were also forced to participate and “act” in a popular YouTube series that Hackney filmed in their home. Several of the children said if they forgot lines, or tried not to participate, they would be physically abused as punishment. Police interviewed one of Hackney’s adult sons. Logan Hackney said he and his brother Ryan discussed reporting the abuse, but never did. Logan allegedly admitted to knowing about the physical abuse, and said they would sneak the children food when possible. When questioned, Machelle Hackney "denied the pepper spray, denied the ice baths and stated the only forms of punishment she uses is having to stand in the corner, getting spankings and being grounded,” according to police paperwork. Logan Hackney and Ryan Hackney were booked into Pinal County Jail for seven counts each of failing to report abuse of a minor. Machelle was booked into Pinal County Jail for two counts of molestation of a child, seven counts of child abuse, five counts of unlawful imprisonment and five counts of child neglect. 2131

She says Holly is one of the most helpful employees on staff. “It’s really fast and helps us with the speed a lot,” she says. The creator behind this artificial intelligence technology is Valyant. Rob Carpenter, the CEO of the company, says as jobs evolve and change, new jobs become available. As with most new technology, Carpenter says they’re still working out all the kinks. “It’s almost understanding the almost infinite ways to that people can ask for a cheeseburger,” Carpenter explains. “There are also the different accents you have to content with and the background noises.” While customers find the idea of Holly fun, their still unsure. “It was awkward,” says one customer. “And humans are just better and more responsive and talkative.” Carpenter admits Holly isn't the perfect employee, but he says in the next five years, you will see more robots at big name stores and fast-food restaurants."Right now, this is ground zero handling drive through,” he says. “Eventually, we are going to start seeing it in more tangible ways, where it can actually carry on a more fluid conversation."
