SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two men were arrested in Mexico Wednesday after authorities say someone shot at a Border Patrol agent. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday roughly a mile and a half away from the San Ysidro Port of Entry. A spokesperson with Border Patrol says the agent radioed in and said someone shot at him. (AP) — Police say a former professional baseball player sought in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in a Phoenix suburb was found dead Saturday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Grand Canyon. Scottsdale police say the body of Charles Haeger, 37, was discovered about 4 p.m. on a trail along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona. Sgt. Ben Hoster says police were seeking Haeger on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault in the fatal shooting Friday. The victim was identified by police Saturday night as Danielle Breed, 34. According to mlb.com, Haeger was a pitcher drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2001, and he played 83 innings in the major leagues. 713

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV)  -- A former navy corpsman who's saved hundreds of lives says she was only doing, "What any American would do". Gina Austin could not take seeing the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. She packed up kayaks, jet skis and supplies and headed to Texas where she helped save people and pets. Austin makes it sound simple. But she was elbow deep in devastation for a week. Her first rescue was a tiny one."We found a little Chihuahua and we were calling her baby girl," she said, noting that she worked with a rescue group to help save thousands of animals. "People had chained their animals up so we actually had to go in with bolt cutters. There were dogs just clinging to cars..."At one point, Austin said she saw a family in a steel boat paddling toward her with shovels. "And they asked… did anybody see a little Chihuahua?" Austin said. The family was describing girl baby girl, her first rescue. That day, the family was reunited.  995

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection near the San Ysidro Port of Entry Monday night. The San Diego Police Department told 10News the suspect is a 23-year-old man in a white pickup truck who was trying to drive into the United States from Mexico.Police say he had been directed to a secondary screening area but failed to stop for an inspection and began firing at border agents. The man attempted to drive away, but authorities shot back. SDPD said at least seven CBP officers fired their weapons, killing the driver.According to a witness who was driving to the border from National City, police could be heard telling someone to pull over. The witness added that a police helicopter could also be seen in the area. San Diego Police say they're helping with the shooting investigation, which originally involved Border Patrol and CBP. Marco Sotomayor, Secretary of Public Security in Tijuana, tweeted that CBP closed all lanes of the port during the incident, but quickly reopened them. 1075
