RIYADH, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Saudi Arabia convened Sunday the fourth meeting of their joint committee on economy and trade in the Saudi capital, co-chaired by Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and Saudi Minister of Finance Ibrahim bin Abdel Aziz al-Asaf.     Chen hailed the rapid growth of bilateral economic and trade ties since the third meeting of the joint committee in 2006, noting that bilateral trade have realized two years in advance the goal of 40 billion U.S. dollars by 2010, and Saudi Arabia has been China's biggest trade partner in West Asia for eight consecutive years. He made a five-point proposal, in which he said both countries should strive to expand bilateral trade to reach 60 billion dollars by 2015.     He also proposed to maintain the long-term and steady crude oil trade between the two sides, in addition to enhancing cooperation on exploiting gas, oil projects and petrochemical industry, and establish a cooperation mechanism on trade remedy.     The Chinese minister stressed that both sides should promote the negotiation process on the free trade agreement between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called on health authorities to ensure safety in the production, storage, transportation, and inoculation process of the vaccines against A/H1N1 influenza, for the health of the public.     Li made the remarks when visiting the Beijing-based National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products, where the country's self-developed vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu are tested. "Safety and quality are of top priority," Li said, adding that the inoculation of the A/H1N1 vaccines should always be conducted on an "informed, voluntary, and free" basis.     Li noted that autumns and winters were high-occurrence seasons for the flu, and urged the authorities to improve disease prevention and treatment in order to stop the disease from fast spreading across the country.     Authorities should focus on disease prevention in key venues and areas, especially schools, and make active efforts to prevent and deal with mass infection of the disease, Li said. A total of 242 patients were in critical conditions, the Ministry of Health said.     As of Monday, the country has inoculated more than 87 million people with A/H1N1 vaccines. China is the world's first country to issue a production license for the vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China-U.S. relationship that by large was entering a period where our focus would be more and more on global issues, said U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman on Friday.     Huntsman made the remarks at the Forum for America/China Exchange at Stanford (FACES) in Peking University, a top university in China.     "Obama arrived and found what he had hoped for," he said relating to the U.S. President's just concluded China visit after reviewing the bilateral link chronicle.     U.S. and China could strengthen cooperation in areas including military, people to people exchanges, climate change, clean energy and economic crisis, Huntsman told the delegates attending the forum.     He said the U.S.-China relationship was so "large and complicated" that managers of the relations should "take the areas of commonality" and "realize and speak open" about the disagreements.     Huntsman, who once lived in Taiwan and could speak Chinese called Chinese the "21st century language", saying diplomacy is ineffective without "investing a generation of professionals willing to invest their careers in turn in language, culture, regional studies."     FACES, a forum held in Beijing from Nov.15-20, gathered more than forty students from China and the U.S to discuss political, social, economic and cultural issues.

  

CAIRO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Africa look forward to deepening cooperation in various fields, especially science and technology, industry, agriculture and environment, said Egyptian and Chinese officials at a science and technology expo, which opened here on Thursday.     In the opening ceremony of China Exhibition on Innovative Technologies and Products in Egypt, Minister of Higher Education and the State for Scientific Research of Egypt, Dr. Hani Hillal, said that his country reaffirms the support for scientific and technological cooperation between China and Africa.     "China exhibition is an important forum to know more about the progress China has reached in scientific and technological fields, and it is also an important forum for the convergence of scientists and researchers with the men from industry and innovation," Hillal added.  An electric vehicle is on display during an exhibition showcasing Chinese innovative technologies and products in Cairo, capital of Egypt, on Dec. 3, 2009. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday he and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama agreed during their talks to resolve the nuclear issues of the Korean Peninsula and Iran through dialogue.     "Both of us remain committed to resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and consultation," Hu said when meeting the press with Obama after their bilateral talks. "Such a commitment serves the common interests of China and the United States and all other parties concerned."     Hu said China and the United States will work with other parties concerned to stick to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the six-party talks process to safeguard the peace and stability of northeast Asia.     The two presidents stressed that it is very important for the stability in the Middle East and the Gulf Region to uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and properly resolve the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation, Hu said.
