SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire Department and Bomb Squad responded to a hazmat situation in Kearny Mesa Monday. According to the department, the incident started just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Balboa Avenue and Ponderosa Avenue near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, workers at Senior Aerospace Jet Products routinely put titanium shavings in barrels. Monday afternoon, one of the barrels, a 55-gallon drum, began to get hot and started expanding. Firefighters arrived at the business and poured water on top of the barrel to cool the contents after evacuating the building. The bomb squad and hazmat technicians were also called to the scene and, after opening the barrel, say the titanium was reacting with another chemical. Shortly before 7 p.m., the area was declared safe and the barrel turned over to the company for proper disposal. 924

But he's won an ugly one.The bug-eyed, dreadlocked pooch took top honors Friday night at the 31st annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest.Owner Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa, California, won an appearance with Scamp on the "Today" show, ,500 in cash, another ,500 to donate to an animal shelter — and a trophy the size of a Rottweiler."He's Scamp the Champ, no longer Scamp the Tramp," Morones told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat after the victory. With schools in Michigan closed during the spread of COVID-19, Grand Traverse Academy Principal Michelle Floering still wanted to deliver good news to a student in person. Floering decided to pay a visit to student Kaitlyn Watson who was working at a drive thru restaurant in Traverse City, Michigan. Floering informed Watson in person that she is the school’s class of 2020 valedictorian. “Thank you so much, I am so excited,” Watson said.“I couldn’t wait to come tell you,” Floering responded.
