As the world waits for deliveries of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, the pharmaceutical company is having to adjust their target after hitting supply chain obstacles, according to the Wall Street Journal.“Scaling up the raw material supply chain took longer than expected,” a company spokeswoman told the WSJ.Pfizer and partner BioNTech SE had hoped to ship out 100 million doses of their vaccine by the end of the year, that has now reportedly been cut to estimates of about 50 million. Two doses are needed for each person to be vaccinated.Pfizer did not elaborate on where the raw material shortfalls happened. They did say some raw materials in early production earlier this year did not meet their standards and they had to fix the issue. After the WSJ’s report, Pfizer’s stock price dropped and the S&P 500 fell slightly. The United Kingdom has granted emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine, and is expected to start administering doses soon. The FDA in the U.S. is considering a similar authorization, which could come later in December. As part of Operation Warp Speed, the U.S. Government has purchased 100 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, with an option to buy more.Roughly 20 million of those doses were expected by the end of the year once the FDA granted emergency use authorization. No word on how Pfizer’s shipping delays could impact this number.Pfizer says their production lines in the U.S. and Europe are complete and they are “confident” they will supply the targeted number of doses in early 2021. 1524

BALTIMORE — Romance scams have nearly doubled this year, according to the FBI. The holidays coupled with the pandemic have many people feeling lonely. Dating sites help singles connect, but it's not always who you think it is.A Montgomery County man thought he was in a relationship with a woman named Brandy Bowens, instead, he lost ,000 in a romance scam. "It’s like there are claws in you that you can't seem to get out," he said.He didn't want to be identified but wants to warn others about how his five-year relationship ended in financial ruin."It's hard. I lost the money and it messed up everything in a financial way for me, trying to build my credit back, just so much that that has screwed up for me," he said. His better judgment took a back seat when he was asked to be the go-between for the woman's art business. The FBI later informed him that he was involved in a money-laundering operation."That's a huge problem and continues to be a problem," said Supervisory Special Agent Keith Custer with the FBI Baltimore field office.Custer estimates that romance scams are up 30 to 50 percent. It's also one of the highest dollar value scams, and victims rarely get their money back.Custer is warning anyone with an online dating profile to research the person's photo and profile. Start by doing a reverse google image search, and look for scammers to make up excuses on why they can't meet in-person or video chat."Saying my phone is broke or my camera doesn’t work," the Montgomery County man said. And never send money to anyone you don't know personally."More people are being isolated and are online looking for companionship, so naturally that fraud and those scams are going to continue," said Custer. If you think you might be a victim of a romance scam, contact your local FBI office or file a report online. This story was first reported by Mallory Sofastaii at WMAR in Baltimore, Maryland. 1920

As many people are still struggling to reclaim their financial footing, experts say easing the burden on your future entails putting a financial plan into place right now.So where do you start?WXYZ spoke to Robin Thompson of metro Detroit's MoneyWise Consulting for the top five financial things you need to do as you get ready for the new year.#1) Review your spending planNow is a good time to evaluate your expenses. Figure out where you can cut temporarily. Good places to look include anywhere you’re sending an automatic payment. Think about any unused streaming service subscriptions or gym memberships."You really have to get clear on what’s a need," said Thompson. "What’s a want? What is truly essential?"#2) Make a plan to get out of debtYou want to list all of your creditors, all of your corresponding interest rates, and then really laser focus on the debts with the highest interest rates.People should be allocating a minimum amount total of three months of essential living expenses for their emergency fund.#3) Start building an emergency fund"If you only have the ability to set aside a week, don’t get hung up on the amount," said Thompson. "The habit is more important than the amount."#4) Prepare for recoveryMortgage-holding homeowners and students should take advantage of loan forbearance right now."Now is the time to pick up the phone and talk with your lender on how’re we gonna handle this?"#5) Re-evaluate your retirement plan"How did COVID impact your retirement savings," said Thompson. "You want to revisit your investment mix, just to make sure you’re on target for your goals."So here’s the top 5 Rebound rundown: create a new spending plan, manage your credit and debt, build out at least a three-month emergency fund, prepare for the end of loan forbearance, and review your retirement strategy. 1844

As tensions between law enforcement and the public rise, more cops are saying they need help mentally. For decades, mental health in law enforcement has been stigmatized, says Lieutenant Alexis Zellinger with the Atlantic City Police Department in New Jersey, and she says it has led to suicide being the leading cause of death among officers for the last few years.According to the group Blue H.E.L.P., which has tracked officer suicide since 2015, 2019 was the deadliest year for police in the United States as 228 took their own lives. The organization also reported 172 officer deaths due to suicide in 2018, 168 in 2017, and 143 in 2016.Lt. Zellinger says traumatic incidents on the job can occur several times in one day and are not always related to use of force situations.“I was on a call where we had to perform CPR on an infant,” said Lt. Zellinger. “Going through something like that as a police officer and a woman who has gone through a miscarriage not too far along from that moment; it is something that can be traumatizing."“The climate of the country right now, it’s not great for law enforcement,” added Deputy Chief Bridget Pierce with ACPD.In 2018, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal instituted the Officer Resiliency Program as a way to help offer supports to law enforcement personnel who may need it. The program places at least one officer trained to understand and deal with mental health issues inside each department in the state. Grewal says the program traces back to an encounter he had in 2018 with Pablo Santiago, a deputy with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department in the state.Only a few weeks after the two met and Santiago invited him to a homeless feeding, Grewal says Santiago shot and killed himself in the parking lot outside of his office on the day after Christmas.“He was the picture of community service,” said Grewal. “[He was] vibrant. You never knew anything was affecting him. There is an argument to be made that it’s a line of duty death because it is the trauma and stress of the job.”In Atlantic City, Deputy Chief Pierce and Lt. Zellinger volunteered to become the department’s first two resiliency officers. They started counseling officers within the department only two weeks ago.“In my career [at ACPD]- I’ve been here 24 years- there have been 6 officers who have committed suicide,” said Pierce. “When one of your own takes his own life, you feel partially responsible that you should have seen it coming. One of the officers that we lost years ago was one of my very good friends, who I worked side by side with, rode in the car with, and for a long time that haunted me.”Since the death of George Floyd, Attorney General Grewal says calls to resiliency officers and state hotlines have increased by thousands.“It’s tough. It’s only getting tougher,” said Deputy Chief Pierce.Blue H.E.L.P. says 125 officers have taken their own lives in 2020. 2919
