DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)-- After a nine-month hiatus, the controversial Crossroads of the West Gun Show is back at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend. Dozens of people returned to Jimmy Durante Road with their picket signs Saturday morning to protest the gun show. Many did not think they would be there again."We thought we already had this issue decided," Rose Ann Sharp said. The founder of the website "neveragainca.org" organized the protest after the gun show temporarily was reinstated. Last September, protesters convinced the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors to suspend the gun show, but a judge's ruling this past June allowed the event to return."I feel really good that the court found it in our favor," California Rifle and Pistol Association Executive Director, Rick Travis said. "What that does is it protects San Diegans' and Californians' first amendment rights."In response, State Legislators passed AB893. The bill bans the sale of guns and ammunition, specifically at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, starting in 2021. 10News met several teenagers who joined the protest. 16-year-old Daphne Porras said she came to the rally because she was scared. At Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley, she said lockdown drills are the new norm. "Unfortunately, it is a realistic possibility," Porras said. "I feel like our generation has almost gotten used to it."Her friend Robbie Glatts echoed her sentiments. "I don't like going to school scared anymore," Glatts said. "I don't like making plans on where I'm going to go. I have a plan for every single class. I have items like, 'oh there's textbooks over there that I could throw.'"They said that is why they are supporting AB893. "This isn't about first or second amendment rights," Sharp said. "This is about commerce, and the State has the authority to decide what business it will conduct on state-owned property."Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 13, 2019, to sign or veto the legislation. Sharp said she is confident he will sign it into law. If he does, gun show advocates said they would continue to fight. "We are going to appeal this all the way to the Supreme Court," Travis said. "This is a state-wide fight for 40 million Californians' rights. If they take these right away, this is not where they are going to stop."AB893 only applies at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. (KGTV) — Del Mar Fairgrounds and city officials met Tuesday to devise a traffic plan with one of the main arteries to the venue closed.Northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard has been blocked off since a bluff collapse in late April.The road won't reopen until at least June 4, but the county fair opens May 31. "People are going to start going back through the neighborhood, or you're just going to sit in line," said Del Mar resident Jim Murff. Del Mar City Manager Scott Huth said plans include increased signage to instruct fairgoers to stay on Interstate 5 to the Via de la Valle exit. He said the city would also hire "flaggers" to direct drivers past the stop signs in its beachfront neighborhood, north to Via de la Valle. "Even with the flaggers that delay is not going to be as efficient as getting off (the freeway) at Via de la Valle," Huth said. Annie Pierce, a spokeswoman for the fairgrounds, said the fair would operate at least three days while northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard is closed. (KGTV) - Images of an extra-large mystery cat have opened a lot of eyes in East San Diego County community of Descanso.Off Viejas Grade Road, a wildlife camera on the land of Allen Walker's neighbor captured the video one evening last week.  It shows a large cat walking along a trail not far from homes.  Bobcats are routinely filmed by the camera, but Walker says this one appeared twice as big as the typical one."Little afraid for my corgis, because it would be breakfast or lunch ... I was pretty shocked about its size.  It's the biggest cat I've seen out here that's not a mountain lion," said Walker.We sent the image to SDSU research scientist Megan Jennings, who has studied the local bobcat population.  She confirmed the cat is in fact a bobcat - and a near-doubling in size would be highly unusual.  She says any extra-large bobcat is likely a male who has stumbled onto a steady food source. Walker knows what that source is: a huge presence of rabbits in the area. 1034

(KGTV) - MLB Hall of Famer, Trevor Hoffman, joined joint developers, Zephyr Partners and The Robert Green Company Monday in supporting an initiative that would give San Diegans access to a bluff-top site that has been closed to the public for a century.The plan is to transform a nearly 17-acre site at 3350 Camino Del Mar into a luxury resort with public access to the beach down below."To be able to actually come here and enjoy it, have a glass of wine at one of the restaurants or walking on one of the trails, I'm really looking forward to it," said Del Mar resident of 50 years, KC Vafiadis. The two developers want to create a luxury resort called "Marisol" which would include a hotel with 65 rooms, 31 villas, dining options, gardens, cocktail lounge, spa and access to the beach down below. The plan is a smaller version of the original proposal, which was met with backlash by residents of Solana Beach and Del Mar. They worried it would obstruct ocean views and increase traffic in the area, so the developers downsized the project by 40-percent.The new plan is an alternative to a proposal that was already approved, which would create private, gated estates.The developers now hope to gather enough signatures for a citizen's initiative to put the plan on the ballot next March. They say they're taking into consideration bluff safety and stabilization and have plans for traffic relief as well.The initiative will be filed with the Del Mar Clerk Monday. 1492
