SAN DIEGO (KGVT) -- Parents of San Diego Unified School District students will hold a demonstration Tuesday with a goal for the school district to return to full-time, in-person education as soon as possible.Parent and family therapist Gina Smith said she started the group called "Reopen SDUSD" because she is frustrated that other San Diego County districts have set reopening dates, and many private schools are already open. The group has already started a petition which has more than 650 signatures."What sparked the fire is that other schools have reopening plans within weeks and San Diego Unifed has been silent," Smith said.San Diego Unified has not released any definitive dates or a timeline for reopening.Currently, the district is reporting a projected loss of 2,474 students. Two out of every three un-enrolled students are kindergartners. Enrolling children into kindergarten is not mandatory in the state of California.The district has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening, and before that meeting, hundreds of parents are expected to rally over their concerns about distance learning. Some parents say they're concerned about the mental health impact distance learning is having on their children."The isolation and lack of social interaction is a huge part that many children as young as five are experiencing depressive symptoms", Smith said. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A woman was drunk when she drove her large family off a Northern California cliff last month and her wife and several children had large amounts of a drug in their systems that can cause drowsiness, authorities said Friday.Police had previously said they believed the Hart family died in a suicide plunge from a scenic overlook. The crash happened just days after authorities in Washington state opened an investigation following allegations the children were being neglected.Preliminary toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of 0.102, said California Patrol Capt. Bruce Carpenter. California drivers are considered drunk with a level of 0.08 or higher.Toxicology tests also found that her wife Sarah Hart and two of their children had "a significant amount" of an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.Carpenter said none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts.Sarah and Jennifer Hart and their six adopted children were believed to be in the family's SUV when it plunged off a cliff in Mendocino County, more than 160 miles (250 kilometers) north of San Francisco.Authorities have said data from the vehicle's software suggested the crash was deliberate, though the California Highway Patrol has not concluded why the vehicle went off an ocean overlook on a rugged part of coastline. A specialized team of accident investigators is trying to figure that out with help from the FBI, Carpenter said."We believe that the Hart incident was in fact intentional," he said.Carpenter said the family stopped in the small town of Naselle, Washington, about 80 miles (128 kilometers) northwest of their Woodland, Washington, home, during their drive to the California cliff. But investigators are still trying to determine why they stopped in Naselle, which added an hour and a half to their trip, and whether they contacted anyone. Naselle is near U.S. Highway 101, a popular, scenic route along the coast.Five bodies were found March 26 near the small city of Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect, but three of their children were not immediately recovered from the scene.Two more are missing and another body has been found but not identified.The 100-foot (31-meter) drop killed the women, both 39, and their children Markis Hart, 19; Jeremiah Hart, 14; and Abigail Hart, 14. But after spending two weeks with the family Argyropoulos said she noticed kindness, love and respect for the children was largely absent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --Three hours after returning from his deployment, Navy Lt. Eric Turner went to Seaworld. Not for the same reason as most visitors though - he was there to surprise his wife. Beckie Turner is a trainer. Hundreds of people pack in to see the "Dolphin Days" show at the park. Beckie does it every day, but Wednesday, September 13 there was something different going on backstage. "She's not expecting me, she thinks I'm on medical hold or something like that," her husband told 10News Reporter Bree Steffen.  "I hope she's not mad haha." Lt. Turner is back early from his 11-month deployment in the Middle East. The couple was reunited after he walked down the arena stairs, people cheering as Beckie got out of the water and embraced her husband. "It's nice to have him home," she said, tearing up. "Thank you all for being a part of it, it's really special." Eric and Beckie have four kids, have been married 10 years, and both of their parents served in the Navy.  1035

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The San Diego Police Department's Eastern Division opened up their “Trunk or Treat Haunted Station” to more than 500 kids the Skyline neighborhood. Officers and community members helped to transform the station, and students from Morse High School played monsters in the haunted house. The tradition began four years ago, with the goal of connecting the community with law enforcement.  “It’s so safe. It’s so fun. The kids are having a blast,” one woman said, as her cousin played with the police equipment on display.Outside the station, sponsors gave out candy and snow cones. Officers allowed Trick-Or-Treaters to tour the inside of a SWAT vehicle and ride a police motorcycle. “When I was a child, we didn’t have a place like this to come to,” one woman said, as her grandchildren played inside the SWAT vehicle. “As I was growing up, they would say 'Don’t eat the candy. Things are unsafe.' But we’re so glad to be here because we know our kids are safe here.”Residents said this was exactly what the community needed-- An experience that not only keeps the streets safe, but builds good relationships between residents and law enforcement. “A lot of the kids said, 'I want to be a police officer when I grow up.' And that’s what we want. We want kids from this neighborhood to get interested in becoming a police officer,” Lt. Ernesto Servin of SDPD said.  1414
