(KGTV) - The City of San Marcos is turning to crowdfunding to make up for budget shortfalls in their 4th of July plans.For the second straight year, the city set up a GoFundMe website to raise money for fireworks. This year's goal is ,500.City officials tell 10News the city already pitches in ,000 to pay for entertainment, security, permits and other costs associated with their annual Fireworks Extravaganza.They also say traditional donations have brought in about ,000 for fireworks. But the fireworks show costs K."I can tell you, it's the best show in North County," says San Marcos Recreations Programs Manager Andrea Gonzalez. "It's a real show-stopper."Last year's GoFundMe brought in more than ,000. Gonzalez says the city still solicits donations from past donors through the mail and phone calls, but those have been down over the last few years. They decided to get creative and make it easier for people to chip in."It's a lot easier to get on your Facebook page and contribute to a GoFundMe with one click than having to write a check," says Gonzalez.Other 4th of July celebrations have done the same thing. The Lake Murray fireworks show raised ,000 last year through GoFundMe. This year they're up to ,000 in donations.Meanwhile, La Jolla cancelled their show in 2018 because of a lack of funding.Gonzalez says this year's fireworks party will go on as planned, no matter how much money they can raise. Schools in the U.K. are removing analog clocks from exam rooms after students complained about not being able to read the time, according to The Telegraph.Malcom Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders, says students are accustomed to using digital devices today."They are used to seeing a digital representation of time on their phone, on their computer," Trobe told The Telegraph. "Nearly everything they've got is digital so youngsters are just exposed to time being given digitally everywhere."Teachers are concerned about students stressing out during exams because they can't keep track of time. SANDUSKY, Ohio — Just as summer began, so did the immigration raids in northeast Ohio.The first one happened on June 5 at Corsos, a garden and flower center in Sandusky, Ohio where 114 people were arrested as their workday started.Two weeks later, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided another company called Fresh Mark. ICE raided all three of the company's locations, including the one in Canton, Ohio. More than 140 workers were arrested there, many of them accused of using false identification to get their jobs."We want to support our families and we want to protect and defend them so that they don't get split apart which you see is happening all over the place," said Veronica Dahlberg, executive director of HOLA Ohio, a small, grassroots Latino organization based in northeast Ohio.Dahlberg and the folks at HOLA Ohio stepped in to pay some of the bonds for those arrested in Sandusky."So far we've helped 21 of the farm workers, so we post the bonds for them at the Cleveland Heights deportation office," Dahlberg said.HOLA Ohio has raised ,000 to put towards bonding out the workers, and so far they used over ,000.Dahlberg said the family reunions have been bittersweet."When you see those reunions and you can deliver mom to the children or dad back to the household and the people are just so happy," she said. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) – Authorities have identified the victim and suspect after a man and a woman were found dead in a San Marcos home Monday. The Medical Examiner identified the victim as Michelle Johnson, 43, as the victim and Tiko Leal, 49, as the suspect. Deputies were called to the home on the 1000 block of Lanza Court early Monday morning after receiving reports of unknown trouble. Neighbors told deputies that two children, ages 10 and 11, were inside the home and afraid to come out. After entering the home, Johnson and Leal were found unresponsive with trauma to their bodies, according to the department. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - An East County family is channeling their pain into helping domestic violence survivors in San Diego. The family's loved one, 19-year-old Kiera Bergman, was murdered last year in Arizona. ”What helps us is being able to help other people and we want her story and her memory to stay alive and that’s why we’re choosing to do donation drives, because we want to be able to help people that are in the same situation she was in," said Mindy Tarantino, Kiera's aunt. Investigators believe Bergman's boyfriend, Jon Clark, is responsible for her death. Clark faces first-degree murder charges and is set to stand trial in a few months. “I'll look at pictures that I have of her and then all of a sudden you just get overwhelmed, I get anxiety really quick, and it just really hits me that she’s gone," said Kiera's grandmother, Sandie Bergman. They are collecting various toiletries and items like diapers to donate to Becky's House, a nonprofit working to break the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness.A donation drive was held in Santee on Monday, but you can also donate online through the family's Amazon Wish List. 1155
