"A vehicle was eastbound on Newton Avenue when it stopped in the intersection and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group."A 44-year-old man was shot in the head and paramedics took him to a hospital, the officer said. "At this time, his injuries are non-life-threatening."A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and driven to a hospital by an unknown person, Heims said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is proposing to build 1,200 housing units over the now-shuttered Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club golf course.New Urban West is planning what's called "The Trails at Carmel Mountain Ranch." The plans, submitted to the city, call for 1,200 multifamily homes - a mix of for sale, and for rent - plus 111-acres of open space, including six miles of trails. The 164-acre project would make 10 percent of its rental units available for low-income households at 65 percent of the median income. "The plan features affordable and market rate housing for young families, working professionals, and seniors in very close proximity to thousands of jobs and a major transit center," said a statement from Jonathan Frankel, a vice president at New Urban West.Carmel Mountain Ranch golf course closed in 2018, amid a series of golf courses shutting down due to skyrocketing water rates. The course has since been fenced off, and is dominated by weeds and overgrowth. Now, a group of residents called Carmel Mountain United is raising concerns over the development in the golf-centric neighborhood. The neighborhood has several golf-cart crossing warning signs and its streets are named after famous courses.Troy Daum, who heads the group, says many people bought in the neighborhood because of the golf course. Now, his group is raising concerns that the development could increase traffic and make it more difficult to evacuate quickly in the event of a wildfire. Daum said New Urban West has ignored those calls and should instead focus on redeveloping area retail centers into mixed-use housing. "I don't think there's compromise with 1,200 homes," Daum said. "There's just not room in the community to handle that."Frankel says the project comes after neighborhood workshops and online surveys. All were booked into County Jail for murder.The District Attorney’s Office says that Glen Montano wrapped the strap around the victim’s neck, while Alfredo Montano struck Nixon multiple times and kicked him while he was being strangled.Two of the suspects, who are brothers, were allegedly running an illegal gambling den and cannabis grow operation at the home. 840

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two pregnant women in San Diego County have been hospitalized due to flu complications, the county's Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday. A 40-year-old woman spent 16 days in the intensive care unit and a 30-year-old woman spent nine days in the ICU. Both women were unvaccinated, in their third trimesters and contracted influenza A. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women have some of the highest risk of developing flu complications if they remain unvaccinated. “That is why they're one of the groups for which vaccination isextremely important," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Changes in the immune system, heart and lungs during pregnancy make pregnant women (and women up to two weeks after delivery) more susceptible to severe illness from the flu, which could require hospitalization." Officials from the CDC and the Health and Human Services Agency suggest that pregnant women receive the flu vaccine at any point in their pregnancy. However, the nasal spray flu vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. Flu cases in the county ticked up during the week of Dec. 9-15, according to the county's weekly influenza report. Confirmed flu cases totaled 290 compared to 199 the previous week. The county's overall total of confirmed flu cases is at 940, well behind the 1,641 cases at this time last flu season. Everyone 6 months or older is recommended to get the flu vaccine each year. In addition to pregnant women, health officials strongly advise the vaccination for people with a heightened risk of serious flu complications, like people older than 65 and people with chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes.
