SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Thursday released a picture of the vehicle used in a deadly hit-and-run in Logan Heights last week. 52-year-old Maria Estrada Romero was hit while walking near Cesar Chavez Parkway on her way to a bus stop on November 15. Two days later, she died at the hospital. Police say the driver didn’t call 911, or stop to render aid to Romero. RELATED: Woman critically injured in Logan Heights crashThe vehicle used in the hit-and-run is described as a 1997 to 2004 white Ford F-150 truck with stock wheels. 10News spoke with family members about the crash Wednesday. Romero was a mother of five and grandmother of five. "Always really happy, an outgoing person," said Brianda Ramos.The family says they rushed to the hospital after learning Romero was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Basically left her right there," said Ramos.Family members say Romero had become famous in the area for selling tamales at parks and schools in Southcrest and Bay Terraces. Police say the truck had a tinted back window and a white California sticker. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Monday identified the suspect who reportedly threatened officers with a knife before being shot in the Midway District last week. According to police, Ryan Bowers, 23, was shot by Officer Matthew Steinbach after raising a knife toward officers. Police responded to the 3100 block of Cauby Street just before 10 p.m. January 3 after a caller said Bowers cut his own throat with a knife before it was taken away. According to police, that’s when Bowers pulled a knife out of his jacket and raised it toward officers. The officers drew their weapons while telling Bowers to back up, which he refused to do. “Fearing for his safety, one officer fired his weapon at the male striking him at least once,” police said. Officers administered medical aid to Bowers until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 1036

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, the California National Guard confirmed that its service members were recently sent to two San Diego nursing homes that needed help treating residents who were sick with COVID-19.“We supplemented their existing staff- their civilian staff- with our medical teams here in the California National Guard,” Lt. Col. Jonathan Shiroma told ABC10 and said that they were deployed at the direction of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).The National Guard reports that 20 troops were sent to Santee's Stanford Court nursing facility for a week in October and another 20 troops were sent to El Cajon's Villa Las Palmas for two weeks in November.Lt. Col. Shiroma said teams tested patients and staff and offered other supportive care. “Within the Guard we also have many medical professionals so each of the teams were led by either a physician assistant or a registered nurse or an LPN,” he added.“If you have an outbreak, you have staff that has to quarantine and so in order to provide care you want to get people into the building to help with the residents,” Deborah Pacyna with the California Association of Health Facilities told ABC10 News.The CDPH reports that since the start of the pandemic, 50 healthcare workers have tested positive at the El Cajon facility where 91 residents have gotten the virus and 45 healthcare workers have tested positive at the Santee facility where 58 residents have contracted COVID-19.The National Guard said that it doesn't have any current missions in San Diego but it's always ready. “If something comes in the next few weeks and there’s a need in any part of the state, the California National Guard will respond appropriately,” added Lt.
