Xi arrived in Manila Tuesday noon to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, which the Chinese president said is an important event for cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

As a crucial part of East Asian cooperation, the trilateral mechanism was initiated in 1999 with annual leaders' meetings launched in 2008, and has played an important role in promoting mutual political trust, economic cooperation and personnel exchanges between the three nations.

The talks also covered efforts to combat terrorism at the international level.

Xi called on the two countries to attach importance to practical economic cooperation and open up new prospects in economic and trade cooperation by docking their development strategies and implementing large projects.

Major disputes range from differentiation of responsibilities of cutting emissions among countries to how developed countries would meet their promise of providing 100 billion U.S. dollars by 2020 to support actions of developing countries.
