SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego students have a new way to report claims of physical or sexual abuse in school.Thursday, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the creation of a new, online reporting system for suspected abuse. She also announced the creation of the Student Safety in School Systems Task Force."It's critically important that these reports don't fall through the cracks," Stephan says. "The safety of our students depends on it."RELATED: La Jolla Bishop's School graduate describes former teacher sexually abusing her, alumni come forwardStephan says many times, students don't feel comfortable going to school administrators or officials with claims of abuse. They fear the claims won't be taken seriously, or the allegations could be covered up. The new online system gives the students a more secure feeling that their claims will be investigated. The task force will vet and review every submission and follow up with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will also guide the person facing the suspected abuse to find resources and other available services for help. This will not replace the responsibility of mandated reporters within schools, Stephan says. But it will give people another way to make sure the proper authorities hear their claims.RELATED: Former El Cajon high school teacher suspected of 6 sex assaultsAnyone is welcome to file a claim for any kind of physical or sexual abuse. But, Stephan says the main goal is to root out abuse done by teachers or other adults against students.Links to the reporting system will be put on the webpage of every school district in the county, as well as the DA's website. You can file a report here. 1690

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some San Diego fitness studios and hotels are getting creative by working together.F45 Training San Diego East Village and the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego are partnering to offer outdoor fitness classes this weekend.George Chmiel, the F45 studio owner, said that when they heard about the new public health orders to shut down more indoor spaces, they immediately looked for outdoor space.Meanwhile, the nearby Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has an 8,700 square foot rooftop terrace that's sitting empty. It's typically used for events and parties, but none are happening due to the pandemic. The hotel has allowed F45 to use the space without charge."Two industries that have been hurt by this current situation we're going through, are the hospitality and fitness industries," said Rana Kay, the director of communications at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. "We feel the pain at the gyms when they were recently shut down once again.""I think it's a great collaboration of businesses that have just gotten kicked in the face to find a unique way to weather the storm and potentially grow through this," Chmiel said.Chmiel says the plan is to hold one class on Saturdays and Sundays, and two classes on the weekdays.Kay says it could also benefit their guests. They hope people staying at the hotel will eventually take part in the classes as an option because fitness areas in the hotel are currently closed.Hapa Yoga & Fitness in Mission Valley says they have also turned to hotels since their indoor studio space closed. They are renting outdoor space at the nearby Marriott in Mission Valley. 1620

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego welcomed several adorable birds to the flock this week, well, "flamboyance."The park welcomed seven Caribbean flamingo chicks to the mix, ranging from 2 to 11 days old, recently. The birds have entered breeding season, SeaWorld says, and cute gray, fluffy newborns will be available to see at Flamingo Cove.RELATED: SeaWorld offers Inside Look as additional experienceFlamingo eggs incubate for about 28 days before hatching, according to the park. Both the male and female take turns sitting on top of the nest to incubate the egg.Once hatched, both parents feed the chick by producing a secretion called, "crop milk."While flamingos are known for the bright pink feathers, they are born with gray or white down feathers. RELATED: SeaWorld crews save Encinitas sea lion pup with head stuck in diver's maskOver the next two- to three-year period the chicks will lose the gray or white coloring and pink feathers will show. The pink feathers' color occurs from the carotenoid proteins in their diet. Though many refer to a group of birds as a "flock," a group of flamingos are called a "flamboyance" because of their bright color.Guests can welcome the birds to the flamboyance and learn about them during SeaWorld's "Inside Look" sessions on June 8 and 9, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. 1326
