"China is growing quickly, and I think it will become one of the most well-known countries in international cooperation in terms of disaster and humanitarian issues," Xavier Castellanos, the federation's Asia-Pacific regional director, said in Beijing after the release of a report on world disaster relief by the federation.
"China has striven to develop its big data industry and has introduced data centers from multiple advanced IT companies such as Apple and Tencent, providing data resources for its artificial intelligence industry," he said.
"China is an important economic partner of ASEAN, and at a time when the developed economies are suffering from a sharp downturn, China is the only large source of demand that could still be growing," said Manu Bhaskaran, founding director and CEO of Centennial Asia Advisors, an economic consultancy in Singapore.
"China has one of the most vibrant venture capital and startup markets in the world," Thurston said, noting that the country's thriving technology, internet and e-commerce industries offer a fertile investment environment.
"By doing so, they are in fact destroying the jobs of these young people."
