CHICAGO, Illinois (WGN) — Six people were rescued after an elevator suddenly stopped for several hours in the building formerly known as the John Hancock Center.Around 12:30 a.m. local time Friday, the group was leaving the Signature Room and the elevator was near the 95th floor when two cables broke, causing the elevator to stall near the 11th floor of Chicago’s fourth-tallest building.The elevator ride was faster than normal, those on it said. They later learned they fell 84 floors before their rescue, according to a report by The Chicago Tribune.Fire officials said the elevator was in a "blind shaft", which means there were no door openings.At about 3 a.m., firefighters broke through a brick wall in the parking garage to access the elevator and rescue the group, that included a pregnant woman.No one was injured or needed medical treatment.The John Hancock Center is Chicago's fourth-tallest building. 933

In the lot on Main Street and Fourth Avenue, visitors can buy anything from fish tacos and flowers to Mexican food and coffee.Just Coffee opened up about two weeks ago and owner Tyler Detweiler said he knew it was a bold move to start a new business in the middle of a pandemic, but it’s been successful so far.“People come here with the best moods. They’ve been making their own coffee for three months, four months now, and they want to go get a coffee that tastes like real coffee from a real espresso machine,” said Detweiler.He said another draw has been thanks to his business partner, the owner of Keto Dessert Company. James Baum usually delivers his sugar-free desserts to various locations in the Chula Vista area, so the partnership means one central place for locals to find his treats.Baum said his drive to sell keto dessert comes from his personal background.“They just thought I was a slow learner and then I got older and took this super long test of hundreds and hundreds of questions and realized I’m autistic,” said Baum.He said a sugar-free diet can benefit people with autism so he started the company as a way to bring dessert to keto diets. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- With cases of coronavirus continuing to spike in the United States, Southwestern College announced Tuesday that the campus will be conducting courses online for about a week as a precautionary measure.Students and campus staff are moving all in-person classes to online or distributed instruction from March 16 through the 20.The decision joins numerous other institutions throughout the country to help suppress the spread of the virus.List: Major universities suspending in-person classes amid coronavirus fears"This is a rapidly changing situation and we appreciate everyone’s patience as college leadership works to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our students, employees and community," said SWC President Kindred Murillo said.They are also canceling "large public events at all our campuses." CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A frightening scene for any family to witness was captured on video just before Valentine’s Day outside an East Chula Vista gas station. A clip posted to Facebook shows a man screaming racial obscenities at a female customer while the woman he’s with calmly pumps gas into their car.The incident reportedly happened at the Shell gas station at the Village Marketplace in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista at around 4 p.m., according to the victim.In a Facebook video post, the victim wrote that the man had approached her car and began shouting vulgarities then returned to his car. “No there is nothing done prior to this on my part. No there was nothing wrong that I knew of. No, there was no history," the victim wrote in the Facebook video post."No, I've never seen this couple before. No, there were no words exchanged between us, no eye contact, he just began to spew hateful commentary when he saw me get out to pump," the victim said.Sensing that something may happen, the victim used her cellphone to record the encounter, and that's when the man approached her again.The video shows a man with face and arm tattoos jumping out of the passenger seat of a light colored Nissan Versa hatchback. He approaches the victim’s car while flashing both middle fingers and screaming, “F*** n*****s!”The man then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and spit on the windshield.10News is not identifying the victim for her own protection.According to the victim, the couple drove away after the woman finished pumping gas.“I am beyond grateful that he, for some reason, changed his mind and did not spit on me or put his hands on me,” the victim said.The woman called Chula Vista Police about five hours after the confrontation at the gas station, according to Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum. Officers took information from the woman and followed up with her Friday to gather more information and documentation, Collum said. They will evaluate the evidence to see if it amounts to a criminal offense. Collum said police do not know the identity of the man seen in the video. “This is highly unusual,” said Collum.
