A Tennessee man was arrested after watching ISIS videos, and then lying about his stay at a mental institution when he tried to buy a sniper rifle, according to federal officials.According to a federal indictment, federal agents began looking into Khari Malik Whitehead last year, after they talked to someone who knew him. That person told Metro Nashville Police they were concerned Whitehead was watching ISIS propaganda videos on the internet.They also told the ATF Whitehead may have possibly been radicalized, and that they were afraid that he may commit a mass murder one day.The indictment said Whitehead was committed to a mental institution late last year, but he lied about that in February on a background check form he filled out at the Walmart in La Vergne as he tried to buy a semi-automatic rifle. He asked to purchase a rifle that could "hold a lot of bullets"However, the purchase didn't go through. His stay at the mental institution was picked up by the background check, and Whitehead was denied the purchase.Whitehead's lie on the background check form was enough for federal prosecutors to file charges against him. 1175

A police officer in Columbus, Ohio, was arrested on Thursday on two child pornography related counts, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said.Officer Raymond Rose, 29, was arrested on two second degree felony counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity related material and for pandering obscene material involving a minor. Rose is accused by O’Brien’s office of illegally filming a nude minor on July 20, 2020 inside a Columbus residence.O’Brien said that Rose was a member of the police’s patrol division for five years.WCMH-TV confirmed that Rose was placed on administrative leave and does not have arrest power during his leave.“When criminal activity is discovered, our duty is to investigate and pursue the appropriate action based on the evidence,” Columbus Division of Police Chief Tom Quinlan said in a statement to WCMH. “The fact that it involves one of our own does not change that. The protection of children demands the highest level of priority and investigation. Regardless of who the accused is, we support every effort to ensure justice is done.” 1076

A new technology is coming to airports to help with passenger screening from home to plane. Denver International Airport will soon be the first to test Daon’s IdentityX platform. It creates a digital identity for each passenger that can be used at kiosks and e-gates, then help travelers schedule times to go through security and get to terminals.That digital identity, called Glide, will also include biometric data and be used for passengers to show their health status using a badge on their cell phone. Down the road, the platform could also mean touchless payments at stores and restaurants.“So what we're trying to do is allow people before they come to the airport, maybe for the first time or maybe for every time, to really begin to feel confident that they can control the time and space elements of their journey,” said Chris McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer at Denver International Airport.The same technology can be used to improve safety for the thousands of staff and TSA officers that come and go from the airport every day. 1051

A Russian who allegedly worked on funding online propaganda efforts to manipulate voters in the 2016 and 2018 elections was charged with a federal crime Friday as part of a wider conspiracy to hurt American democracy.Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova, 44, of St. Petersburg, Russia, is charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States for managing the financing of the social media troll operation that included the Internet Research Agency, which special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators charged with crimes earlier this year.Prosecutors who unsealed the complaint Friday say she aided the Russian effort to "inflame passions" online related to immigration, gun control and the Second Amendment, the Confederate flag, race relations, LGBT issues, the Women's March and the NFL National Anthem debate from December 2016 until May 2018.The social media efforts specifically focused on the shootings of church members in Charleston, South Carolina, and concert attendees in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally, which left one counterprotester dead, and police shootings of African-American men, the complaint says.The criminal charge says the Russians' online manipulation effort focused on multiple political viewpoints and candidates, but frequently zeroed in on the Republican Party's most well-known leaders.In one effort to spread an online news article about the late Sen. John McCain's position on a border wall to stop illegal immigration, an alleged conspirator directed others to "brand McCain as an old geezer." They also attempted to paint House Speaker Paul Ryan as "a complete and absolute nobody incapable of any decisiveness" and as a "two-faced loudmouth."They aimed other efforts at stories about Jeb Bush, Sen. A student at Thirkell Elementary/Middle School was arrested and therefore handcuffed earlier this week for pulling the fire alarm, as sounding a false alarm is a crime. The student's parent was issued a citation as a result of the false alarm according to district protocol. The district is reviewing the arrest. 321
