Hurricane Willa has made landfall near Isla Del Bosque, Sinaloa, on the western coast of Mexico, approximately 50 miles south of Mazatlán.The storm will quickly weaken over the next 24 hours as it makes its way across the Sierra Madre range and becomes a rainmaker for northern Mexico and Texas on Wednesday. When Willa made landfall Tuesday evening, it had top winds of 120 MPH. The Category 3 storm, while still a major hurricane, has weakened since peaking as a Category 5 hurricane on Monday. Willa has been a danger for forecasters as well. An aircraft with the Air Force Reserve's Hurricane Hunters was forced to turn around Monday over concerns for its onboard equipment after a lightning bolt from one of Willa's outer rain bands blasted it, according to the National Hurricane Center. In a tweet Monday, Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto said he has asked the National System of Civil Protection to take all steps necessary to protect those in the hurricane's path as well as those affected by Tropical Storm Vicente, a weaker system tracking south of Willa that's also primed to make landfall Tuesday. Vicente likely will be a tropical depression by the time it comes ashore, the hurricane center said.Airlines have started moving out of Willa's path. Southwest Airlines has canceled all flights at the international airport in Puerto Vallarta, a resort city in Jalisco state. American Airlines has canceled its flights in Mazatlán, about 275 miles to the north.Willa's landfall comes three years to the day after the strongest hurricane to hit the Pacific coast, Patricia, a Category 5 storm, made landfall in Jalisco. The back-to-back systems of Willa and Vicente have helped make the 2018 hurricane season in the northeast Pacific one for the record books. The season is now the most active hurricane season on record using a measurement called accumulated cyclone energy, which combines the number of storms and their intensity through their lifetimes to give an overall measurement of tropical activity in a given region. 2048

If you think Charleston, South Carolina, has plenty of history within its pre-Colonial grounds, just look at what's been hiding 160 miles off the city's coast for thousands of years: a giant deep-sea coral reef system. The chief scientist who helped make the discovery called it unbelievable. 300

IMPERIAL, California (KGTV)-- As businesses in San Diego enjoy modified re-openings, the lockdown continues for our neighbors in Imperial County. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the decision Friday after the number of COVID-19 infections continues to rise.Former San Diegan, Bob Diaz, has called the small city of Imperial, 'home' since 1998. He says he loves desert landscapes, and the relatively quick drive to visit his family in San Diego. Since the quarantine began in March, he has not seen them at all."I wish I could," Diaz said. "There are so many parks, the beach, the downtown, the Embarcadero, places that I love to go. But you know what? It's not worth the gamble."The 66-year-old says because of his age, he is taking the lockdown seriously."I knew that the numbers were looking pretty ugly," Diaz said.Friday, Governor Newsom and state officials mentioned Imperial County's data in a press conference."I noted a positivity rate over a 14-day period in the state of California at 5.3 percent. The positivity rate over a 14-day period in Imperial County is approaching 23 percent," the Governor said.Imperial is one of 15 counties under the state's COVID-19 monitor list. For its 180,000 residents, there are less than 300 hospital beds."What if I need healthcare, and the beds are already full?" Diaz asked. That has become a reality for many. The Governor said that there have already been more than 500 patients who were transferred out to other counties in the last five weeks. Diaz thinks there is a large group of patients unaccounted for in the county's data: people who come into the US from Mexicali."There are over 1 million people across the border, and I know a lot of them come for their healthcare in the US. I was always kind of worried about that," Diaz said. That is why he says he is content with remaining on lockdown."If it has to be another six months, so be it," Diaz said. 1914

Images from Niagara Falls are going viral online, showing the stark difference in how Canadian and American companies and customers are handling social distancing guidance during the pandemic. The pictures and videos being shared compare two boats, one with a lot of people onboard and one with very few people onboard. The Canadian tour boats are seen with hardly any people onboard, while the American boats have people shoulder-to-shoulder. @samatha.1617 Niagara Falls, the Canadian boat versus the American boat ##maidofthemist ##canada ##niagarafalls ##fyp? Titanic - Titanic For those not familiar with the international site along the New York-Ontario border, on the American side is a company operating boat tours called Maid of the Mist which gives its passengers blue rain ponchos and on the Canadian side is Hornblower Cruises which gives their riders red ponchos.Maid of the Mist recently posted on Twitter thanking their customers for social distancing. 977
