ESCONDIDO, Calif (KGTV) - An albino red-tailed boa constrictor named "Lemony Snicket" is back home.A man wearing a hood and backpack returned the snake on May 16 to the EcoVivarium children's museum in Escondido. Museum officials believe Lemony disappeared on April 29. The snake was dehydrated and had not been fed. It was also full of mites. Lemony will undergo a 30-day quarantine.RELATED: Snake named 'Lemony Snicket' missing after unfortunate events at Escondido museumThe boa disappeared after a series of — ahem, "unfortunate" — events during a tour at the children's museum. Lemony was taken out of its cage for guests, before being locked back up.During the tour, however, museum officials said a man in his 20s excused himself from the group never to return. Later in the day, they said the boa was missing.A security camera facing Lemony's enclosure was also inoperable. Earlier the same day, the camera broke. A security expert said it appeared the camera was knocked out by some type of electrical charge.The museum said it would not press any charges against the person they believe to have taken the snake. 1144

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A 13-year-old boy suffered burns to his face after a science experiment at Capri Elementary School in Encinitas went awry.Priest Rivera, a 6th-grade student, said a teacher was attempting to show a group of students an experiment known as the “black snake” or “carbon snake” when it exploded in his face.The experiment involves mixing sugar and baking soda with a flammable liquid and lighting it on fire to create a snake-like reaction.Rivera said the teacher told them to stand in a semi-circle around her on the field as she lit the experiment on fire.“The teacher kept on pouring more rubbing alcohol onto the flame itself because the flame wasn’t building up,” said Rivera.That’s about all he remembers before waking up in an ambulance with a sharp pain all over his face.“My face was constantly burning and burning,” he said. “I still feel it right now.”He spent six days in the hospital and underwent four surgeries, according to his mom Gina Rivera.“It was just hell,” she said about the experience. “He kept saying, ‘mom am I going to go blind?’”Priest kept his eyesight but two weeks after the accident, still had bandages around his face to protect the burn areas.Gina said it’s still unclear how bad the injuries will end up being though she said the effects will be long-lasting. “It has halted his life. It’s changed his life,” she said.The outgoing superintendent of the Encinitas Union School District, Timothy Baird, told 10News they could not comment on any specifics because the incident involved a student. Though, he did say the district is investigating what happened.The Rivera family has hired a lawyer and plans to sue the district. 1692

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A North County woman says she was scammed at a gas station by a performance 'worthy of an Oscar.'"We pull in and my husbands about to pump in the gas," said Alice. An ordinary trip to fill up turned eventful last month at the Shell gas station on Santa Fe Drive. "I see a man pull up in a black SUV, brand new and shiny," said Alice. Alice says a man in his 30s got out of the GMC Yukon and approached them."He was in head-to-toe designer clothes," said Alice. In the backseat was a well-dressed woman and a little girl."He says, 'Excuse me, Sir. I'm here vacationing from Dubai with my family and my wallet was stolen,'" said Alice. The man asked for some money for gas and then took out a ring."Here, take my ring. It's worth 0. I have money and plenty of jewelry at home. I just need money for gas and food," said Alice.Alice told the man to keep the ring and then had her husband put in on a pump with their credit card."I believed their story ... I put myself in their shoes. I would be devastated, and I would want someone to help me," said Alice.Days later, she learned from her cousin in Los Angeles those strangers were scammers. "I was the 4th person she knew of personally that this happened to. I was duped," said Alice."Then this past Wednesday, Alice was back at the gas station and filling up, when she saw something familiar," said Alice.It was another new GMC Yukon. Inside was a different family. She saw them talking with a young man, before pulling out a ring. "I ran over put my hand in front of the guy and said, 'You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a scam!" said Alice. She learned the family had a similar story about vacationing from Dubai. The SUV sped off, leaving behind a woman hoping others don't fall victim."It makes me angry. It's the giving season and they take advantage of that. They're actors. They played their part perfectly. They're going to get an Oscars, and I handed them the award," said Alice.Alice believes both vehicles had out-of-state license plates. She says she contacted the sheriff's department but was told this incident would likely be defined as panhandling, which isn't a crime. 2184

ENCINITAS, Calif., (KGTV)— It has been almost three weeks since a fire destroyed several small shops in Encinitas. One of the business owners who lost it all is now getting a lot of support from his local community. In a blink of an eye, Greg Cali's life work was destroyed."One thing's for sure, it's been the most stressful period of my life," Cali said. His gallery was called "The Cali Life." It featured works by Cali and several other local artists. The blaze on September 30, 2019, burned it all to the ground. All except for one thing."The sign up over the building was the only thing I got," Cali said.That sign now has a new home inside of Pandora's Pizza restaurant."Art and pizza. Those are two of my favorite things on earth," he laughed. Two days before the fire, Cali sent out invitations to his gallery's one-year anniversary party. But with no gallery and no salvageable artwork, it was going to be canceled. That was, until Craig Leslie, Pandora's Pizza owner, reached out. Some of Cali's artwork was already hanging inside Pandora's Pizza, so Leslie offered to host the gallery party at the restaurant, located just two blocks away. "We're here to support him," Leslie said. "We're here to support other artists in the community. Let us know what you need, and I mean, we have a lot of walls!"Cali spent the last three weeks printing his collection, getting new pieces and organizing a silent auction. Instead of drowning himself in sorrow, he said his community is showering him with hope. Leslie even told Cali that he could use his upstairs loft as his gallery until he gets back on his feet. "My future, it looks really bright," Cali said. "There are ups and downs for sure, but I am 100 percent sure that you can turn bad things into positives. (KGTV) -- Escondido Police are investigating after a man was stabbed to death Tuesday evening.Police say there were called to the 500 bloc of West 7th Avenue just before 8 p.m. Tuesday afte receiving several reports of a man in an alley who was unresponsive.After officers arrived, they found the man with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. The man died at the scene, police say.A search warrant was executed at a nearby home believed to be linked to the homicide, but police are still seeking information on the incident and suspects.The events leading up to the stabbing are also unclear at this time.Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Escondido Police Department. 727
